Injector overhaul... in he goes.

Well today I'm sending my Rangie "Jeeves" in for an Injector overhaul. Had one fail last summer on Holiday, spoilt the break so as they tend to go in sixes I'm getting them all fettled. They can be a big job to get out so its in to the local none franchised then off to a local Injector specialist. £120 per injector max I am told plus the labour which can be 2.5 hours per injector if they jam in, read on internet not from the garage. (Fingers crossed!!) - 2003 TD6

As the injectors are all under the same pressure seeing as once has gone the other five are now the weak links, the last one went on a long trip with the Caravan when we were crossing Europe, Problems started in Calais and we got to Lake Como - Italy where I ran it in to be checked over. The garage couldn't get the part for over a week so we made it back up to Strasbourg before a stop for Fuel ended the game. French got the injector very quickly, but we were next to a major city as opposed to the middle of nowhere.

Well, I have the RR back, the Injectors were removed and sent away for full overhaul and new nozzles. I have 77,000 miles so hopefully it will be good for another 77000 miles now.

Seems smoother on acceleration and quiter, maybe its psychological, but I now have peace of mind that I have done all I can to keep the truck running when on holiday.

I also got the filter changed on the top of the engine block, that often gets overlooked and can cause all kinds of problems.

Next preventative work is the auto fluid and filter change. A local specialist have quoted £120 for the work which seems fair given the cost of the fluid and filter plus hour to two hours to do the work.

Do you by any chance have a code for the injectors? Are they all identical? Thank you!

No, I had the existing injectors removed and rebuilt with new washers and new nozzles. I know replacement injectors would need to be programmed to tell them which eu settings to run at. Sorry I don't have a part number. How is the turbo doing?

Out of interest, what did it cost in the end to get them all done?

Repairing looks like a great idea as RAVE says that: “If one or more injectors are replaced, the
calibration function must be performed to reset the compensation values to 0. This must only be performed when injectors are removed and replaced with new items. The procedure is performed using TestBook/T4”.

Right now the car is waiting for a rear valve block at the dealer, but after that I will remove and send the injector for repair. I contacted a company that gave the following prices: £80 for repair, £145 for a repaired one and £260 for a new one.

The turbo is still whining between 1800-800RPM, I will look into repairing it after the suspension and injector issues are fixed…

Thank you!

All done inc VAT £1038 local non franchised repair centre specialist in Landrovers. Keep in mind I only had five done. In the end it was around £130 plus vat each injector as I had new nozzles to, belt and braces.

With regards to the turbo and injectors - they need to come out to do the turbo so makes sense to do it in one hit if possible. I didn't and now I'm looking at getting the turbo done before the summer vacation assuming it doesn't blow before.

The main reason I didn't do them myself was due to the potential for injectors to be jammed in as a specialist puller tool is required to get them out. As it happens they were fine and came out as good as gold for the garage Neutral
