Door frozen open...

Anyone else suffer from a drivers door that freezes open !!

I can get in OK, but something inside the door seems to freeze to stop the catch closing. I did 10 miles tonight with my hand on the door handle before it eventually shut Sad

Had it on my old Peugeot and was a nightmare. Never resolved it. Try to spray WD 40 on the lock mechanism that you see when the door is open. If that doesn't help get the door card of and spray it onto the mechanism. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

Hi, i have this When its under 15 minus. I direct the heater at the door and after about 5 mins it looks. I tried some lock oil with positive result, but I guess this really has to do with a worn lock. Does your door sometimes not open on the first attempt. Mine opens only half way, when is that cold. I have not bothered doing anything to solv it.

Had this myself yesterday morning (-11.5 at 0350 hrs) whilst driving to work. What I had to do was hold the door shut and press the central locking button (this kept them shut enough to stop them opening) and turned the interior light off ! After 40 miles with the heater on I could then stop and shut them properly ! Not ideal but it worked Thumbs Up

I had exactly the opposite problem yesterday. My door opened fine on the driveway. Closed fine, too.

15 minutes later on a trip involving around 7 minutes at 70-80mph and the door wouldn't open. It would unlock and the door seals were fine as I'd coated them with Gummi Pfledge a day earlier. The mechanism was frozen, I suspect from the lower temperatures caused by air movement over the door skin during the trip. Passenger door opened OK (try leaning over and opening it - not that easy even for someone with my long arms!), so I ended up rather ungracefully wiggling across into the passenger seat (haven't done that for a while and it wasn't to get out... Mr. Green ) and getting out that way. A few hours later and the door was fine again.

I don't advise spraying WD-40. It's designed to disperse water and it dries the lock out. I found this out the hard way with my 110's locks.

I use silicone spray or white lithium grease spray. The can with a long straw thing on the nozzle. Only did this last night, but squirted liberally into the lock by the door opening. Whether that's a reliable method remains to be seen, but I had no problems this morning at all. Si. <This is my name.

Had it past couple of days. All I do is fill kettle with warm water from tap and then pour on door/handle. By time I come back with second kettle of water it's closing.

its happened to me as well, the door lock mechanism freezes and stops the latch from engaging...
until mine got sorted i had to shut the door and press the door lock button on the dash and by the time i got to my destination the door was unfrozen..
as for the solution, you have to take the door card off and remove the door mechanism and grease that up, there's not other way i'm afraid.... ... - .- -.

I had this problem on mine last winter, and as Stan says the door card need to come off and the mechanism needs greasing to stop it freezing.

I also held the door shut and then locked it with the central locking button, but I found that I couldn't then open the door from the inside until the mechanism had defrosted!

Looking in the Wiki at the rear door card removal video by Powerfull, is taking the front door card off the same procedure or are there any other little tricks to be aware of? Si. <This is my name.

Tell me about it!
The interior of my car has been getting so hot in the sun recently that the stainless steel flask I keep in the centre cup holder for cold drinking has been getting to hot to dink. Had to have the ac on full bore for over 30 minutes to cool it down. Laughing
