Car doesn't try and start?

Hi Folks

Does anyone know why sometimes when I insert the key and turn it, the car doesn't try and start? I hear the immobiliser going off then turn the key so everything lights up then turn fully but no turning of the engine. Obviously this turning of the key is one complete fluid motion.

On an ordinary car I would say ignition switch faulty but on the RR it could be different, it seems mine has always had like a delayed reaction, I can turn the key and release it and the car will start almost after Ive released the key. Does it have an ecu for the ign switch? it has an ecu for everything else. One day your life will flash before your eyes......................................make sure yours is worth watching!

Whenever this happens to me its because the gear selector is not fully in park.

I think the car was fully in park, certainly couldn't move it until the car fired up. I've had this RR for about a week so slowly getting used to it but there has been a few times it didn't fire first time but this morning it may have been 6 or 7 times before firing, meanwhile steering wheel is going in and out like a yo yo.

Excellent comment Johnte, read the link and I'll target the Ignition switch if it stays the same, how long did it take to remove?

Yours sounds just like mine was. To start with, only did it very occasionally, but got worse and worse for a couple of months, then one day wouldn't start at all...

Replacement switch was around £90 including VAT from local main dealer (supply only). I fitted in myself in about 1/2 hr Thumbs Up

Cheers for the update. Takes away the fear when you have a little info on these things. I guess there isn't any coding or anything and it's just a straight swap for a new ignition switch.

If the ign switch is okay check for voltage at the starter on the small terminal to check all wiring and the immobiliser is all working ok

I just unplugged the old switch, plugged the new one in and cured - been OK ever since Thumbs Up

If you do find you need a starter, I have a good used one in stock Whistle

(bought a new one, thinking the old one was faulty Big Cry )
