United Kingdom 2019 Range Rover Vogue SE SDV8 Santorini Black

Was driving back from Heathrow in the rain and gloom the other day and discussed this with Mrs RRUK.

Basically, I think that sidelights are a total waste of time, they are NEVER bright enough, they should ditch them and just make it dipped beam instead.

There were so many feckin idiots driving in near invisibility with sidelights on, the power of a candle at best.

I wanted to shout out the window "SWITCH YOUR BLOODY HEADLIGHTS ON YOU TW@T!"

If they crash and die, it's their problem but I don't want to crash into them cos I can't see them coming. So many drivers' attitudes are "well I can see everyone else so it's OK". They are burgling our air. Discovery 4 HSE

What size are the sidelight bulbs? I'll have a look for a few prices. TDV8 HST Sport **Current**

2003 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 V8 Java Black

These arrived today :

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...K:MEWNX:IT

Going to fit them and i'll try to get pics later of the before/after.

Also ordered 3mm LED's to replace the internal door handle ones for a soft white. (not keen on the green)

10mm LED's are next to convert the wing mirror path lights from aht horrid yellow light to the nice white light seen on later models. TDV8 HST Sport **Current**

The concern I have with these is as follows...

The incandescent bulbs work within a reflector housing; LED bulbs are directional (ie there is no light emitted from the back of the bulb) so you will have less light as the reflectors are not doing their job.

Interesting to see if you prefer form over function Razz

That's because 75% of the light from incandescent bulbs does not go forwards, most is emitted around the side.

With an LED bulb being directionally efficient, this isn't a problem.

Absolutely correct, and the reflector "magnifies" this with it's shape - so directional light from LED = less light Whistle

Look at the low voltage Halogens you use in your house. Why bother with the reflector? Easy, the bulb on it's own isn't enough to produce the required brightness.

Unfortunatly they threw the "check sidelight" code up.

I ditched them and bought ones with resistors which cause no isses. TDV8 HST Sport **Current**

United Kingdom 2004 Range Rover Vogue 4.4 V8 Stornoway Grey

I just swapped my side light bulbs for LED versions today and thought the bulb spec may be of interest to others.

I went for these bulbs:

http://www.ultraleds.co.uk/501194t10-anti-...-2177.html

I'm pretty happy with the results, they don't throw up any bulb warnings, they are bright (certainly compared with other LED bulbs I've used in the past), and the colour is a very good match for the xenons without being too blue like some are.

Only slight faff is that you have to file a tiny amount off the corners of the PCB to allow the bulb to pass through the hole in the back of the light unit. 2 seconds with a file had it sorted though.

Here's the before and after photos...

Hope this is of use and takes away some of the gamble re bulb warnings etc.

Cheers,
Steve. 2013 Range Rover Evoque Coupe
