You will need a firmware upgrade on your bm54 unit. It involve the desoldering of 3 chips, reprogramming them, and soldering them back on.

You can pop the lid off, and see if it says FTW next to SA32 (round white sticker on a square chip). If it says FTW, its 95% AUX compatible.

Once you checked, and its not AUX compatible, let me know. I can upgrade the firmware, add a 3.5mm jack cable or Bluetooth music streaming, which plays off the AUX mode.

Many thanks Baris.

So if it says FTW and is 95% compatible, what is the missing 5% - a cable to the external pins? (3,4,10 or is it 8.9.and 4?) .

No, I meant the chances of having aux input is 95%, as I encountered 1 or 2 that still needed the firmware upgrade.

Now you just need to connect an aux cable to see of you have it.

OK. Had radio out today. Seems I may be in luck ? Although it says SA35 FTW as opposed to SA32 ?

Pins 3,4,9,10 are free on the black connector in the multiplug, how does the wiring go (as I have read it is different on the BMW's and the FFRR's.

Also do you know of a source for the pins that fit in the connector ?

EDIT - think I have tracked these down:

Let you know if they are the right ones when they show up! .

Ok, I had my unit upgraded by Baris - amp, firmware, aux socket and bluetooth. It arrived back very quickly, but it's only recently I've managed to have it brought to Switzerland and I've just installed it.

Arrives as below, bluetooth module external on a wire and a very long lead for the aux socket.

Put the wire around the sill.

Up the seam in the carpet to go under the seat.

Under the seat, not very elegant but no one sees.

Under the centre console panneling so no visable wires apart from the actual lead with the plug on it.

All seems to work ok apart from the Bluetooth. I've tried to pair it but it wants a PIN. Anyone know what it is? I've tried 1234. Please PM me if you know - otherwise I'll PM Baris later.

I think I will go for the amp upgrade only as I am going to fit an Intravee so I have MP3 on the screen, I also want to get the tv upgraded to digital and to be able to run a multiplay DVD in the boot and reverse camera. I alredy have 2011 door panels (still looking for back ones) so hopefully will notice the difference in sound quality. One day your life will flash before your eyes......................................make sure yours is worth watching!

Made up the cable and connectors today. The M-71-1 connectors are the right size for the quadlock inner block. Inserted connectors into block, 3&4 for pos, 10 for ground, fired up the car, connected mp3 player to cable, cycled Mode switch on the OBC, nothing, no sign of AUX Sad

Are the pin assignments right?
Do I need that capacitor in the line?
Is it safe to short the leads to each other to test if AUX is there ? .

Happy to report Baris' firmware upgrade did the trick, I now have AUX-IN Smile Many thanks Baris.

With my made up cable and pins, it only works with a "live" device, so one has to get things up and running on your device before AUX-IN appears on screen. This is where the capacitors board comes into play! (For another day Wink) Also will only work if both channels are connected.

Tried with two inputs (one live one not turned on) and it floats away from the AUX-IN back to radio, so will have to fit a switch. Why? One input is for the carpc (tucked away in the boot), the other for occasional connections such as phone or mp3 player (up front).

Looks like I'll have to fiddle about with button assignments as well on the carpc as 1-6 now control volume (whereas when using TAPE as the audio input (which just refused to work properly) the 1-6 did nothing Sad .

Thread resurrection!

Does the FFRR bm54 unit have an aux in socket fitted and not enabled, or no socket at all?

I've seen a couple of bmw units on eBay but I can't see an aux in socket on them in the photos. Where are they located?

The FFRR BM54 unit does not - no socket at all. Baris can add one, as he did to mine.

Might as well do BT streaming if you upgrade from Baris. I have both aux and bt stream (which is channelled through aux). I never use the aux cable, it's just so convinient having wireless connection Smile
