Searching for thread: petrol RR w park heat retrofit - fault

Does anyone remember this? I vaguely remember a thread about a petrol RR (might have been an SC) with a park heater retrofitted that was throwing a fault due to the engine being warm when the ECU actually expects a cold start. ( Rolling Eyes stupid RR thinks too much)
Couldn't find it using search Embarassed

Neither of those either Stan. But that second thread was interesting. Really sounds like I knew wtf I was talking about Rolling with laughter

Thanks for your help, tho. I'm pretty sure that I know where the prob lies: this is an SC that throws a fault when the retrofitted park heater is run as the motor is expecting a cold start and suddenly the ECM finds a warm motor - so it thinks the temp sending unit or the ambient air temp sending unit in the MAF is bad.

Christian and I had a discussion a while back about the function of the water changeover valve for the FBH. I said it was for comfort - first you heat the interior and then the motor - and Christian said that he had read on topix that it was to avoid cold start issues with the motor - the motor is simply not pre-warmed.

Seems we were both right: on the BMW motored RRs the function is for comfort the way I described and, when the Jag motors were installed and started throwing faults, LR just solved the prob quick and dirty by leaving the changeover valve closed during park heat and leaving the motor cold. Stupid IMHO. Confused

This also means that we have to let TDV8 owners know that they need to install the changeover valve if they activate the park heat function with the IIDTool or they may throw faults. Embarassed

How is a computer supposed to determine relevance? Unless you have a massive bank of servers and are called Google or Yahoo it's virtually impossible Big Cry

I dunno, tho, seems to me that search works better on D3.co..uk than here or at RRS... Possible?

tbh i dont have a problem with the search...as long as you use the quotation marks then you should get what you want..you do need to sometimes put in a variation of what you are searching, for instance, fbh or fuel burning heater or park heater might bring up different threads... ... - .- -.

RRS/D3 search and FFRR search the same.

Do read the search help as using plus signs can help a lot Smile
