I've struggled with this one today and can't find a solution to it; when I leave the dog in the dog box in the boot I open the top half of the tailgate to give her fresh air and then lock the caar with the key. Unfortunately the two lights that are set into the top tailgate stay on for as long as the tailgate is open.

I don't really want to take the bulbs out as they provide a good light when I need it but I don't want to leave the lights on for several hours when we are in and out of the car at training. Does anyone know how to isolate these lamps, there are no switches that I can see and they are the only lights that come on when the tailgate is opened?

I am sure the light in the boot area (nearer the accessory socket) comes on too.

I haven't looked but there is either a pressure switch that shuts off when the boot closes, or the car knows from the boot open activation. The only thing you could do would be to fit switches in line with the lights and turn them on and off manually as you need to. .
Experience is the only genuine knowledge, but as time passes, I have forgotten more than I can remember

Thanks, yes the boot area light could well come on but it's obscured by the boot liner and dog box which sort of fill the boot quite nicely!

I did wonder about that, make a common earth for them and switch that?

I asked this question a while back and there was a feeling that they went off by themselves after 10 minutes (they don't on mine).

It does strike me as a bit of an oversight by LR that there isn't a way of turning them off, as a lot of folks must use the tailgate open for protracted periods of time with the ingition off, so a flat battery could be the end result. Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue

In the manual it talks about a double press of the remote locki g the car with the internal sensors deactivated for when you have dogs onboard. If something can't be fixed with a hammer....... You have yourself an electrical fault!

Would something like this http://www.ventlock.com/tailgatelock.php help? It allows the car to go into sleep mode with the dog inside (you can double press to turn the alarm off). It also stops anyone from opening the rear window (although you should have a decent enough dog for that too! ).

Your rear interior lights go out after a timed period (around 10 mins), then they are activated by the interior alarm sensor. Meaning, you leave your boot open unloading your shopping after 10mins the lights shut off, as you get to the rear of the car and your ultrasonic alarm sensor see's you, it turns them back on! Simples...

Only problem is, the ultrasonics see your dog moving too!!!

Try the double lock thing and see if that helps further? Or leave the sunroof open instead?

Craig, What happens if you want them to stay off for the entire time you have the tailgate open?

For example, if I was to attend a polo match on Micks lawn, and wanted to sit on the tailgate, quaffing some bubbly and watch proceeding without worrying that the battery will go flat........  Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue

Then yours will start when its time to have your driver take you home sir...

For information, the switch for the lights is actually part of the tailgate lock.
You could always change the lights to leds, they could stay on all day then without affecting the battery.

Another quick thought, latch the boot lid whilst its open using a screwdriver (or your key) then they may switch off?

Simple option, open sunroof up and open a window a little and close the boot? Fresh air will still get in and dog will be fine might be knackers cold inside though with all the heat escaping.
