transmission ?

I was driving yesterday and slowed down to turn a corner, once I turned the corner and pressed the gas, the engine reved (like the car was in neutral) then it jumped into gear with a hard thud. The same thing happened several times today when i was stuck in traffic. Does anyone have an idead what the problem might be? It's a 2005 with 145,000 miles.
Thanks.

Loss of Drive then Thud on slow corner

I hate to tell you but this symptom is the box itself. The box will need to overhauled/repaired £1000 or replaced £2000.

I have seen identical symptoms on a high mileage RR with same ZF gearbox the tell tale sign of failure is the "Thud" back into drive.

Worth spraying the gearbox link-mechanism with WD40 (under Car on side of box see wiki) "just in case" but your description is of a failing box unfortunately.

Thanks for the reply. When i drove the truck this morning, it worked fine until i got almost to work (about a 20 minute drive). Could the trans be running too hot from a clogged raditor or may airlock in the collong system?

Oil Cooler Blocked

Yes it is almost certainly caused by overheating due to Oil Cooler not working correctly due to a clogged lower section (lowest eight rows) of the main radiator. VERY common issue.

May be too late for your box as damage may be done but if you get a repair or new box you must have Oil Cooler flushed and the Main Rad repaired or replaced.

Thanks once again. is there an easy way to determine if the lower portion of the radiator is clogged without removing the radiator? Or is there a way to see if the trans cooler is actually working properly?

Radiator Drain Speed Test

Yes the speed that that the radiator drains 1 litre fluid for from the drain/release plug can be timed to see if its blocked or not. You will have to search for correct times (Google or maybe on here)
