Hello chaps,

I'm after a 05/06 Td6 FFRR and i'm looking for some advice on what to look for, reading through past threads I see the gearbox and front diff can be problem areas, also what were the standard wheels for this model and service costs,


any advice most welcome,

It will after its been to JE Engineering for a Stage 1 Tune.

Think stock, the top speed is 111mph.

By todays standards, the revs will be relatively high in comparison to an auto with say, an 8 speed box,

When I had my Disco Td5, I did wonder how on earth so many L322's used to come sailing past me on the motorway, and when I got the Td6, I realised why. So much quieter and settled.

so standard you think it will struggle? How much is the upgrade?

I have never driven a FFRR but have always wanted one, I have as my everyday car at the moment a late MG ZTT 135+ (2 litre turbo Diesel BMW engine) and use that to tow my track car and for skiing holidays, it will cruise with ease at 90/110mph loaded up on German autos so would want the same from a FFRR

If I was local to you, I'd take you for a spin! Maybe worth seeing if a friendly forum member is near you. Don't be put off by the naysayers, they can cruise well at speed, but a chip upgrade is very worthwhile. Buy on condition / service history and don't be put off by higher mileage cars.they are heavy beasts, so suspension components are more like regular service items, just don't buy the cheapest parts and you'll be ok. Remember that people tend to post about problems only! (Don't check my previous posts)!!

I won't be put off, I've had TVRs for close on 20 years with no real problems and i'm so glad I didn't listen to the naysayers before buying them,

I'm not saying it won't standard but will take longer to get there.

About 400 pounds springs to mind, but 225 bhp from 174 and another 100 torques approx will make it much more effortless 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

sounds like a great upgrade.

Mine has a Tunit box, fitted by the previous owner, pulls great & not too slow! Remember it weighs the same as a small moon !

also I have been told 18" wheels are the best for ride, does anybody know what the standard 18" wheels were?

As per my profile , mines a 2002, I run std. In winter 22's in better weather, I'll post pics of my 18's tomorrow if its any help ?

The engine is pretty much bomb proof but the gearbox is the weak link. A power tune or chip may put a bit of extra strain on the box.

I find the TD6 is a little slow on initial acceleration from a standstill but once around the 40-50 mark it accelerates quite well when overtaking considering the weight. Mine will happily cruise at way above the legal limit in GB (if I wanted to of course lol).

The max speed is indeed 111mph but it will drive effortlessly at 100+

The standard wheels were 18", when I bought mine it had 20" fitted but since changed it to 19" for a slightly more comfy drive. No longer FF owner but still interested. Present car Jaguar XE

thanks for the info and photos chaps, I'm looking for a 4x4 that will cover big distances with a relaxed drive and loads of comfort so they sound ideal,

can you get 3 adults in rear and would they be comfortable on a long drive 500+ miles?
