2010 Range Rover Vogue TDV8 Stornoway Grey

I miss mine and I don't miss it.................. I miss the wonderful view out, the ease of parking it, the comfort, the ability to "waft" and the (relative) fuel economy. I don't miss the continually needing to be cleaned DPF (and I don't do any town driving) which sapped power when it started it's cycle, the lack of brakes (it was a 2010MY TDV8) and the fact that it felt like it was going to fall over going round corners taken quickly. My last FFRR came after what I rate to be the best car I have ever owned, a TDv8 RRS. I now have an Evoque - it is a lightweight and cannot dismiss potholes like a FFRR, has never got within 15mpg of the claimed fuel consumption (in fact my FFRR was more economical on fuel and the TDv8 RRS was on a par) , but then it goes round corners like it is on rails, it is all but silent on the cruise, has the most comfortable seats of any car (including both the FFRR's ) I have owned (OK so I have the Plus pack Recaro style seats), for a small car riding on 20" wheels the ride on the Magneride suspension is amazing and potholes excepted as good as the FFRR's. Drawbacks - well I had 2 new tyres at £330 a pop (and there's no spare) fortunately I took wheel and tyre insurance so 90% of the cost was claimed back, the boot is tiny, the fuel economy for a 2.2ltr TD is absolutely rubbish and after 9500 miles and 12 months it has settled into 34-35mpg in country road driving and has been up to 42mpg occassionally on the motorway (LR claims 50mpg for my version), the 6 speed gearbox is not the smoothest around and there are no front arm rests like all RR's should have!
I'll have another FFRR anyday, but will leap back to an RRS TDv8 HSE as soon as LR announce they are relaunching it.
And one thing while the Evoque's off road ability is pretty good, it isn't really an offroad car. Maybe LR should have marketed as a competent all weather car rather than plug its weedy off road ability (which is better than a Freelander's) - but that small downside doesn't bother 99% of owners 2018 Mini Countryman Cooper S E All4 PHEV in Melting Silver - it’s whisper quiet in EV and polluter modes

I had started a post on DPF's a while back to see if anyone had problems with it clogging up but no one seemed to have any problem.
I'm sure you are not the only one, do you have any DPF problem on the Evoque?

CSK, none at all. 95% of my driving is fast main roads and one day a month city driving. The FFRR used to go into a cleaner cycle about once a month, it was very noticable when it was doing the clean as the power dropped alarmingly. In the Evoque LR has moved on a couple of generations, if it has done a regeneration I have never noticed it, I've never had the red light on the dash come on either BUT I have had to buy some exceptionally expensive (£27 a litre!!) Castrol Synthetic PDF compatible top-up oil for the Evoque that is claimed to produce less soot. 2018 Mini Countryman Cooper S E All4 PHEV in Melting Silver - it’s whisper quiet in EV and polluter modes

Not many people have dpf issues here so I wonder if driving style or learned behaviour is RC of it :/

Hi guys, yes I pop in now and again as I'm still a FFRR fan. My Evoque was one of the earliest customer cars and very pleased with 99% of it. The 1% is the dire (for a supposedly small car) fuel economy which even with gentle driving is almost on a par with my last FFRR. I know that later cars have had quite a few software upgrades so hopefully next week when mine goes back to James's team at LPR's service bay it will come out transformed in this respect (but I'm not holding my breath!). Must admit that only having to cough up £185 pa VED is much more pleasant than the £400+ I was paying on the TDV8 FFRR and RRS! I've had the odd rattle that comes and goes in the Evoque - it's somewhere in the rear 3/4 trim and Autocar reckoned it drove them round the twist so they dismantled the trim and found a loose cable that tapped on the trim under certain conditions. As Jim will recall I complained about exactly this rattle on the demo cars at Gleneagles so it appears that LR totally ignored any comments about shortcomings during the first customer trials.

Over on BabyRR there has been a huge letter of complaints and suggested improvements sent to LR. Good to see that several of the suggestions have been taken up and now people can order for example a car with the Prestige (think Autobilography) Interior with the sportier exterior. Hopefully for 2013MY LR has also sorted out the poor satnav software (gives you a choice of 3 routes with their environmental impact rated, but no way to see which way the routes will take you!) The L405 appears to be getting the same system. 2018 Mini Countryman Cooper S E All4 PHEV in Melting Silver - it’s whisper quiet in EV and polluter modes

I'm also on the side of the don't do it brigade, up to last year I had an 02 plate petrol FF which although quite old it was exceptional to drive, I went down the road of swapping when I came across a nearly new Jaguar xf premium luxury which was a demonstrator with all the toys, now this is a lovely car and always turns heads everywhere but it's not a FFRR so as soon as the right deal comes along I will once more change to the RR.

Well it's taken awhile to find the spec i wanted but yesterday I took myself on a 460 mile round trip to Romans International in Banstead. What a dealership if you like classy motors, they must have 20/30 million pounds worth of Ferrari,Rollers and even a Bugatti Veron, take a look at the website, any way I was there to look at a 10 month old SE demonstrator with Sumatra black paint ivory leather and all the toys inc. dual view screen, deployable side steps, adaptive cruise, loads more. I was not disappointed as the car was presented immaculately and having only 3500 miles on the clock it is as new. So we did the part ex deal on my rather nice jag xf and 2coffees and a signature later I was off back to Manchester still buzzing to wait for a few days while the money gets transferred. I must say this is my first experience of the new 4.4 tdv8 but how smooth and powerful can a diesel engine get? I've got no pics of my own yet but it's still on the website if anyone wants to take a peek.

Just an update on the above, I've been back down to Banstead to pick up the new beast and I'm well chuffed with it. Half an hour to do do the handover including coffee and a new ' Romans International ' complimentary golf umbrella, and I was on my way. Stayed over last night and drove back this morning, the car performed immaculately as it should, I did the fist 60 miles at 60 mph just to see what sort of fuel figures I could get and it did 45.2 mpg at that speed and the overall 230 mile journey returned 35.4 mpg, well satisfied with that and also the way the adaptive cruise performs is nothing less than superb, a little unnerving at first but great when you get used to it. On smooth stretches of Tarmac the car just wafts along with hardly any wind noise at all. Will post some pics when I stop grinning from ear to ear. Agueroooooooooo. 93-20
I swear you will never see anything like this ever again....watch it..drink it in.

Like many folks here i jumped ship to a 635d and so far the car has been great and the performance is simply ridiculous for a diesel....

This car will do me well till next year when the l322's 4.4 tdv8's have taken a big hit with the 405 being launched, then I'll go back into a FF!! Range Rover SC 35th Anniversary 2006
