HDC, Air Suspension & hand brake and ABS light?

I washed the car the other day & decided to give under the bonnet a quick clean. I wiped the engine & inner wings with a wet sponge & then started the engine. The center L.E.D. display said

The car rides OK but makes strange movements when you first turn the key. It's not like when one of the suspension struts went & the car was rock hard. The other day the hand brake light went out then it came back on and stayed on.

I did assume a car made to wade in deep water would be OK with a light wetting under the bonnet but obviously not. Has anyone got any ideas what to check & will it need to be reset at the dealers again?

Maybe it would be worth buying my own reset tool as the car has been to the dealers 6 times this year already to have the computer reset after having one thing or another fixed. Range Rover 4.4 V8 Vogue

Hi Stan, thanks for the reply. It's been over a week now & no change. Drove the car 60 miles today with all the lights stil lit & it drives fine. Maybe it's just a sensor? Oh and the steering went VERY light when it first happend but this seems to have sorted itself out Confused

If it was any other car I wouldn't drive it with the dash lit up but the car seems to have something wrong permanently & I just don't have time to leave it with the dealer every few weeks. Range Rover 4.4 V8 Vogue

dont know why you're having the lights unless you dis-connected the battery and didnt reset the steering parameters....

your suggestion of getting a reset tool is a good one..something like the IIDTool lets you play with the CCF as well.. ... - .- -.

Try disconnecting the battery waiting 15 minutes then reconnect...

Carryout the steering angle sensor reset by turning full lock to the left then full ock to the right then back to centre....

That may kick it back into action...

I had similar and it turned out to be a dodgy ABS sensor....

The ABS system in connected to the same data bus as the EAS....so a fault in the ABS system usualy freezes the EAS too (annoyingly).

The reason it knocks out the HDC & DSC too, is those two systems also use the ABS sensor information to maintain control down hills and to monitor the traction of all 4 wheels for the DSC.

Getting a diag tool is a fab plan

Thanks for all the help guys, I'm off to disconnect the battery to see if that helps and have just Googled the

Integrated interface diagnostic tool (IID Tool) for RANGE ROVER L322 - FOR 2002-2005 £231.25 exc. VAT

Seems a bit pricey for a small box? Does anyone do a cheaper version which does the same?

It is probably water got into the ABS module and causing poor connection. This will cause all the other faults as all are on the same loop and a ABS fault stops the power getting to the other sensors, causing an alert.

It is easy to open the module and dry out with hair dryer then check for corrosion - 10 min job. It is situated to the rear of the engine near the bulkhead/windscreen.

Never power wash the engine!! There are too many electrical gubbins.

It could also be a sign of a tired battery- I presume you were cleaning car, lots of opening/closing doors, etc, and these kinds of error messages then pop up. My experience is that the car is sensitive to low batt voltages. The 15 min disconnect, followed by resetting the steering angle lock to lock should help.

Well, that's one way to look at it.
If it'll make you feel any better, I can send you a VERY LARGE cardboard box you can put the IIDTool in.

Alternatively, you could see what Blackbox Solutions charges for their magic box.
Then perhaps ring up the dealer and ask if you can buy the official Land Rover diagnostic machine.

And then jump online and buy the IID Tool in about 2 seconds. Jim

blackbox faultmate costs around £1000, the IIDTool costs around £250 and then consider how much a dealer charges to reset your error codes . ... - .- -.

The Hawkeye is under £300 and is not VIN-tied so you could use it on any L322.

I have both a FFRR & a D3 so it suits me really well but I cannot currently write to the CCF. Personal preference as ever Thumbs Up

I suggest to have a good look at all your earth/ground connections as well as the clamps on the battery. Take them off, clean off any corrosion. On the battery clamps, put a thin coat of Vaseline to prevent future corrosion on the other connections use a proper electrical contact cleaner and if you don't have any, WD-40 also does a decent job just not as good as a good electrical contact cleaner. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

This morning I disconnected the battery. Took off the box which was under the windscreen & behind the battery & cleaned all the connections & applied some contact switch cleaner and then some silicone spray after drying it out. The plastic box was slightly open so that may have caused the leak into the connections.

Started the car & all the warning lights have gone out apart from the orange one in the middle of the clocks, think it's skid control. It still has HDC inactive & Suspension inactive but both seem to be working. Suppose it's time to break the piggy bank open again & buy a reset tool.

Not forgetting rswsolutions RAC Tool (not tied to VIN) @ £160 but would take @ three weeks to get here from Denver! .
