The thing is, I dont pay for any of my fuel, as I have a fuel card. The problem comes when you need to reconcile your tax affairs every year and no amount of "creative" accounting will avoid having to pay some tax, albeit minimal in comparison to paying for all fuel.
My conscience just couldn't let me royally rip the ar4e out of the benefit I have and I'm sure that in these austere times, it's only a matter of time before it gets withdrawn leaving me in a very uncomfortable position of having a car I can't afford to fill up as regularly as it needs! Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue
Had- 2008 TDV8 Vogue SE in Java black
Had - 2007 S/C in Stornoway Grey

United Kingdom 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE TDV8 Buckingham Blue

Just to show how things have moved on, my old 1992 3.9 V8 Efi Range Rover Classic did 18mpg on a run, and 11mpg in traffic.

So all you chaps with an SC are getting a very good deal me thinks.

I don't think I would be 100% against a TD6 as long as it had the gearbox done already, the TDV8 is unquestionably a better car and has the benifit of the newer interior too, it's just wether to spend the extra on one or not as I do a fair bit of town driving so not sure if I would really see the benifit of the extra power, I would also like to do some green laning in it too so I wouldn't be as concerned with a cheaper one.
I think buying an earlier one would be the best route, if I could get a V8 that already has an LPG conversion then that would be a bonus, if not I'm sure it really is a buyers market for an early petrol V8 at the moment, and as someone else said its not worth getting converted on the mileage I do per year.
If a TD6 that has already had its gearbox done comes up for sale I won't rule that out either but it will be going to JE Engineering!!.

My car will be going up for sale in a few weeks Whistle SC on gas 2012 Overfinch everything... £27k if of interest?

Reading up on it seems there have been a few TDV8s that have blown turbos, ouch!!.
I think I've decided now to go for an earlier one 2002-2004 and keep the spare money saved up rather than tied up in another car, so will be looking at 4.4s and TD6s now.
My last one was a Vogue but due to there being no TV signal anymore and the Sat Nav being awful I wouldn't even rule out an HSE this time, especially if it's in a colour I like-I've really got my heart set on a Grey one this time.

I don't know, the TDV8 in the Sport I test drove sounded really good for a diesel.

Try listening to the TDV8 4.4....it sounds better than the 5.0 V8SC.

Am I right in thinking that even a facelifted (ie '06 on) TD6 uses the same gearbox as earlier ones. If so, why would anyone spend circa £17k when for not a lot more a TDV8 could be on your driveway. Or, have I got confused again.... 'Nurse'

If you're considering a TD6, just make sure you never drive or have a ride in one with any other engine in it.
