BMW M57 3.0 Diesel Engine Info & Gearbox Strip

Was just poking about on the net looking for info on the M57 engine in the Td6, when I saw a few images here ;

http://www.bmwheaven.com/index.php/compone...linder/m57

Thought it was an interesting site, if you are into your engines or BMW's.........

The later pics are of the more modern version of the engine (twin turbo), and some pics show the swirl flaps, that were never fitted in the Td6 application.

EDIT : I also later found a thread about the gearbox stripdown.........

Helped a mate for a day who had his apart to change a piston - bend skirt, long story... Anyway, this engine is a work of art. The engineering is superb, and I was impressed that the bores looked like new after 260,000 KM. Also quite an easy engine to do major surgery on - apart from getting the sump off - that's a Censored of a job...

Given that this engine has been in production in one form or another for almost 14 years shows that they got it right. There are some very high KM examples of these kicking about that are still running fine.

Pity BMW couldn't find a similarly bullet proof trannie to bolt to the back of it...

Tbt sorry to raise an old thread but did you ever take the front of the engine off at all? Or where the timing chain was? Sad FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's
