Knocking from front driveshafts?

Hi all,

Just noticed on my 2004 V8 that when setting off from rest, I get a knocking noise from the front end. It is repetative, and speeds up with road speed. At about 10mph it dissapears and speeds above this figure are quiet as normal.

Describing sound is tricky, perhaps more like flapping than knocking. It's frequency is much faster than wheel rotation so I wondered about prop shaft?

I had a quick crawl under the car today to look for the obvious but nothing seemed loose or wobbly

Any thoughts

Thanks 47, You think that the cv joints might be the problem I guess. I'll check that tomorrow.

Also, the battery has been disconected recently by a workshop the car was in. I recall there is something that has to be done with the steering after a battery disconnect - could that have anything to do with it an what's all that about anyway?

Sorted now. The centre bearing housing on the rear propshaft had lost one of it's nuts and so the prop was not held straight. Just bolted it back up and no damage done, 2004 4.4 V8 Vogue
