Until I was confident that engine would not overheat, I carried viscous fan in boot, just in case, now hub lives in garage.

These paragraphs are taken from RAVE, the second one explains that the electric fan can cool down engine if it gets to hot.

Ah, it sounds like the TD6 is a lot like the 300TDi.

To be honest, if you're not reaching running temp, it's more likely that the thermostat is stuck open . I fannied about with radiator muffs and stuff like this discussion on an old 300tdi which still never made normal temp. Bothered to take the time to change the stat and it ran upto full temp even in the coldest weather. V8 or else ... |

I changed both EGR and main thermostat on mine fisha, after having over cooling problems (Details on another thread) So when I put it all back togeather decided to see if it would run with no fan. |

Is it easy to remove the Viscous fan, or do you need to remove the radiator etc? Tom

Release the scrivets holding the fan shroud to the radiator, 2 at the top and 1 at the bottom. Lift the shroud up 3/4 inch to clear the holding brackets and slide the shroud back towards the engine as far as you can. With 2 fan spanners release the l/h thread fan viscous nut and spin the fan off.

No viscous fan, 21c last week, and still half way up the temp gauge.
