My wife is 5'0" and likes side steps, as it means she can get in the car easily even in a tight skirt.

I am 6'0" and hate them. I think they don't look very nice but worse when I step down onto the ground (I don't nee to step onto them to get in or out) they touch the back of my trousers and leave a dirty mark.

So I'm thinking of a compromise - side bars. I've been pondering whether the wife could step up on them and yet they wouldn't dirty my trousers.

So - for those with side bars:

1. Can they be used as side steps (too slippery, too small)?
2. Do they catch the back of your legs if you step straight down onto the ground?

mentioned a short while ago and consensus was they are to slippery..i think the solution was electric retractable jobbys...

I've got bars and they are a little iffy to step on. I've seen other 4x4s with side bars that have a rubber step on them as well so surely someone makes these for the Range Rover? Reformed

my nissan d40 had these , but even with the 'rubber' bit it was a bit awkward especially getting out and looking down for the rubber.. ... - .- -.

Current Mrs Andy is 5'2" she uses the access height button as its a bit of a climb without. I dont like side steps also but car came with side bars, I am 6'4" so dont need either but never get pants dirty off the bars. As the guys said they are to narrow and slippy really. Unless you put some of the Treadsafe grippysurface tape where you would stand? just a thought. I stand on them for washing the roof. Mine was a blue one!

Ok this could be stupid question but I'll ask anyways.. What are sidebars for? Just aesthetic reasons?

Ok. Thanks. It seems like they probably don't do what I want anyway, unless I put some grip tape on them and that will look a bit daft.

On a plus side for side bars, I pulled out of space a while back and totally and forgot there was a concrete bollard near the back.

I turned early and heard a horrible scape and thud. When I got out expecting to see the worse, there was a concrete bollard ripped out on its side, and a small scrape on the bar!

So they do work!  Reformed

Emperor they do griptape in pre-cut pads as well as a roll they would not look to bad i think Mine was a blue one!
