I managed to use the scissor jack twice. One on each side of the car to change wheels back and forth.

First one went ok, second one, the jack was already bent so it was pretty scary...
Nevertheless it got the job done with more 10k available for the set of tires.

Now I'm looking into one of those bottle jacks..
What's the lift height you need to have on one of those to use it with a RR?

@mikey...the wheel needs to get about an inch of the ground really so anything above that is a waste...
like i've said before i've jacked with the scissor jack under the bodywork and a trolley jack under the axles and both times i've no problems [except for the flimsy scissor jack]
when releasing the jack ,sometimes the range would go right down to the bump stops ,sometimes it goes to the access height but as soon as you start the engine it all levels out...

I'm assuming when you say "trolley jack", you're referring to 1 of those hydraulic things? steel wheels & an arm you "pump" to raise the jack, then a screw-type thing to lower it?
That's all I use to lift any of my vehicles.
And if I'm removing a wheel, or have to get under it for any reason, I put it on jack-stands.

Don't EVER trust a scissor jack, bottle jack, or trolley jack to support a vehicle if you're under it.
Scissor jacks, as you've seen, can collapse.
A weak hydraulic seal, and that bottle jack or the trolley jack drops.
It only takes an extra couple minutes to put the jack stands under the vehicle.

Can you even imagine what your wife would have to do, when she hears you screaming in the garage, & comes out to find your arm or leg pinned under that truck?

"OK, honey, no, I'm fine. See that jack over there? No, not the bent one, no, not the one leaking hydraulic fluid out on the floor, the other one. Right. Could you lift that 60 pound jack over here? Good. Now, put that part under the axle. No, the axle is this long thing sitting on my thigh. Pull that handle out, stick it in the end, and pump it.

SWMBO asked me what I wanted for Christmas and when I told her she thought I had lost the plot. I already had two small sets of axle stands that are rated at 3 tonnes, but they are only just up to the job and I never felt they were safe enough when working under the FFRR, so here are my FFRR axle stands

Other than the jacks from Costco what other makes and models are suitable to lift the FFRR up
i ask because i would imagine i will need a good height range and if im spending alot of money on one i want to get it right first time  Current Stable:

My trolley jack is rated 6,000 pounds; 21" lift height.
The jack stands are 6,000 lbs EACH.
Manual says petrol FFRR is 5377 - 5644 pounds, unladen weight.
(300 pounds variance for what?)
24 gallons of gas @ about 6 pounds per gallon is another 145 lbs.
oil & various other juices is probably 50 more pounds, easily.
So, 5644 + 200 = 5844 pounds.
Cutting it close to my 6,000 lb. jack. Jim
