is your FBH doing 17 minutes when it cycles, or does it cut out early?

If it is doing the "full" 17 minutes, it could be that the FBH has operated but the cabin is simply too large for the FBH to heat within that time when the starting point is brass monkeys.

I have a feeling they have set the 17 as the time needed to clear the windscreen only, and not heat the cabin to a "comfortable" temperature.

Not sure about Dorset, but the last few days of cold have been a dry cold in Kent, and even though it has been -5 overnight, there has been no frost on the windscreen for the FBH to clear.

I am certain the fans run for 17mins. I'll have to go out Nd listen for the fuel pump. However, even this morning when the outside temperature was 2 degrees there was no sign of warmth. I would accept the fact that there is a limit to how much it can warm the car had I not returned to it a couple of times to find it almost too hot. This morning I could hear the fans.

Strangely when I returned from work this afternoon after a 35min stop start journey it sounded if the FBH was still running when I stopped the car! I think I'm going mad. It had not even been programmed to run.

I think the next stage is to line up my colleuagues Disco 4 (2012) and the TD6 FFRR of my co-director and mine in the car park tomorrow and set the FBH going and see how they compare after 17 mins.

Or hope for better weather.

If the fans do run for 17 minutes, then I am perplexed.

The FBH running after you have shut down the engine was a symptom for me of the FBH not having completed a full cycle due to a partially flat battery, and then after a drive the battery has enough charge left in it to complete the FBH cycle.

And it sounds like perhaps you have a dodgy thermostat? It may be reading correctly sometimes so the FBH kicks in, and perhaps at others it reads wrongly, tells the system it is more than 16 degrees so the system just vents.

When the FBH / venting is operative, you can tell which mode it is in by looking at which light in flashing in the middle of the "AUTO" dial. top light = FBH. bottom light = vent.

Think my FBH. Is playing up , this morning after pressing the remote it would only work for a few minutes then nothing , and 10 minutes later when I took the wee one to the train station and got back home (a 10 min run) the FBH was working after I switched the engine off ......

sounds like you have the same problems i used to have

which was that battery intermittently could not cope....so FBH cycle was cut short to preserve power in the battery so at least the engine could be started.

there are some people who still have the 30 minute cycle, which is great for heating the cabin whilst you then wait for LR assistance to come out and jump start your car !

anyway, when FBH cycle is cut short due to low battery power, a drive will put charge back into the battery. so when you stop, the FBH restarts....until of course the battery runs low again and it stops !

what i do now, is when i get out of the car, if the FBH is running i press the "off" on the remote key fob.

your stealer should fix the problem. Tell him you want the level battery management system which LR has now released to fix the problem. I have it and it seems to be working.

Am I right in thinking that the only FFRR's with remote heating are the diesel models?

Well, after a series of short run cycles mine finally packed up at the weekend, just when I kind of needed it.

But replaced under warranty today.

Happy and toasty warm days again !!!!

You can get them retro fitted into petrol versions , but then you could be paying £££££'s for it
