Brake Caliper Overhaul

Very squeaky brakes again when travelling from stand still to around 35 mph. I'd removed all 4 sets of pads in Oct time, cleaned up the pistons (not corrosion or pitting) & re-coppered greased the back of the pads but it only seems a short term fix.

Q : are there over haul seal kits available or is it just exchange calipers?? Think its rear only.

Model is '06 SC

thanks in advance
S

You can buy new seals, but if they are not sticking or leaking there is little point changing them. The squeaky brakes is more likely to be the pads

you think the pads may be 'glazed' ?

Could be, or it might just be crap pads. I fitted new recommended inexpensive pads to my FFRR last summer and they squeal like pigs on a spit. I'm going to buy decent pads and bin the ones I have

As already said, most likely to be crap pads. I've been there done it time and time a again thinking "I'll save a few quid and buy the cheaper pads, they cant make that much of a difference" and normally end up with squealing pads.

Eventually went out and bought a set of EBC green stuff pads ( the ones designed for 4x4s ) and they have never squealed once.

Go buy the EBC ones, fit em, and you can worry about something else. V8 or else ...

Cut a diagonal edge off the leading edge of each pad and see if this helps. Also have you tried braking hard from about 50-0 a few times, where safe, and without the abs kicking in to help clear the pads??

Every disco4 I've had has done this after a tiny bit of mud plugging Smile and always cleared after the above

Have yet to try the champfer edge, but will do this weekend (the pads are actually LR OEM)

KP, Have used EBC pads before and they squealed! Anyone know if Pagid do pads or posibly Feroddo? I've used these in other vehicles with no real issues.

thanks for the replies

duka,
i had ferodo fitted late last year - squealed. They were changed FOC for another type of ferodo and i have had no problems since. I think the first set were SL and changed to Premier. Not able to check just now will confirm.

Not sure if pagid do sets but the grey and blue pads are great for normal-medium usage Smile
