FBH Accepted fuels

Tried a quick google and search on here but i cant seem to find what i need Sad

Does anyone know what fuels are supported by the FBH, the webasto Thermotop, as used in the TD6 FFRR??

Im guessing it supports thicker versions of diesel, like marine grade and possibly upto fuel Oil thickness but want to be sure before i progress along a little project route Smile

Not sure you could get away with fuel oil but you could probably get away with marine grade fuel.

There are only two types of injector as far as I'm aware - Petrol & Diesel.

Think i'll have to fire an email off to webasto to find out Smile

I know it doesnt use much, i think its quoted at 0.2litres Per hour which sounds a bit optimistic to me and im just thinking if i can stick say a 5litre tank in the boot and run a fuel line to the FBH in the front i could use something a lot cheaper than road fuel to as it could then be used a lot more often and for the full time for extra benefit when the temps drop. Though i do seem to get a fair amount of heat in the cabin and engine within 20minutes Smile

I wonder if it would even take used engine oil or other such oils Very Happy

Used engine oil might be OK as long as it was filtered first. Although frankly I wonder whether it would be worth it in the long term?

The burn rates for the petrol was .5l for 20 minutes I think. That would still pay for itself with the engine almost up to temp. I imagine the same will apply with diesel.

If you can get at the webasto unit with the software (should be possible) I believe you can alter the runtimes and throttle amounts etc...

I dont mean run it all night rob Very Happy

just maybe if the temp drops into the real -'s again then sticking it to run for say 35-40mins would get it real toasty inside Very Happy

The engine oil would certainly be filtered as it would have come out of the engine and the tolerances for most modern engines require quite well filtered oil.
I only ask as i know a few garages now burn this waste product to heat said garage and reduce costs as instead of having to pay for disposal and heating a large garage it kills 2 costs off a budget to a great extent Smile

Hmm will have to think about getting one of those diagnostic cables for the unit and seeing what can be played with as it sounds very interesting.
