If these are working correctly does the washer fluid ever fail to come out?

Driving in the freezing fog tonight they stopped working making it rather dangerous to see where I was going.

Do you have a strong mix of anti-freeze washer fluid? the 10% dilution often only goes down to -2 to -5 but. So although the jets are thawed you can get ice in the tank that causes blockages.

The only test I think you could do is a continuity test?

The WSM does say that if battery voltage drops below 11.4V. Are you driving with the heated seats/screens/wheel on along with lights and blowers etc? I'd worry if the alt couldnt keep up though... May be worth a check?

Brand new battery on Saturday, need to get a new multimeter this weekend then I can test that

MOT on Thursday so will get it checked then along with the faulty FBH.

Been in temperatures down to -9c tonight, just poured neat screen wash into bottle. Works so far...

I've never understood why the washer bottles don't have heaters for adverse conditions (and also some sort of heatable wire in the washer pipes). You can buy kettles that plug into a cigarette lighter so don't know why a manufacturer hasn't come up with an element moulded into a washer bottle. Seems daft to have heated nozzles when the water/screen wash is frozen in the pipe behind it! I was looking for concentrated screen wash last week and the lowest it goes to is -6 degrees and thats if it is 100% screen wash with no water (that was around £3.89 for 1 litre) so reckon it would end up costing more than diesel to keep the washer bottle filled with that!! Steve

i think manufacters rely on the heat from the engine to warm the washer bottle and pipes.. ... - .- -.

Well no amount of heated washer jets was stopping mine from freezing, and I used 100% screen wash.
Temperatures were as low as -13 in Scotland, and coming home on motorway + cold temps made the washers freeze up. Had to pull off the motorway several times and let heat from engine thaw washers out.

i found the inside cabin temperature very comfortable on a recent trek to brussels, didnt want to get out .. ... - .- -.

Agree, interior was always toasty on my trip

Problem sorted then, route the washer tube through the cabin.

I'm sure a kit was available, that was basically wrapping the washer tube around a heater hose to warm water up. Could have been interesting, hot water on cold windsreen!

maybe that's why the manufacters don't do this, hot water on a cold windscreen will cause untold problems.. ... - .- -.
