Convert Fogs to DRLs ?

Don't find my fog lights any good in fog, so got thinking to use them as DRL's?

Would this confuse the Police?
How to get them to come on with ignition?
What bulb should I change to?
Stupid idea? .

Joe90, mine have been done since mid 09 and have had no problems from da fuzz or MOT's

Wire them to a five pin relay with a blocking diode between them...

Had a xenon kit in at first but found them too bright (like some buy racer cars) so reverted back to standard bulbs...

done mine ages ago...drl switch brought of ebay, splice into the headlight wiring for live ignition and headlight feed..

live ignition switches the leds [in fogs] when you turn the engine on and headlight feed switches the drl's off when the headlights are switched on..

i've had no problems with the law or mot and even when going abroad ...

i tried the drl's in the high beam headlights and the high beams in the fogs but decide finally on the fogs..

I did cliffy - not sure I really like them. I do like the look of the angel eyes and I believe the newer Full Fats have them already. Would love to do the front end conversion but not that rich..! Crying or Very sad Ash

OK Stan, like the look of the kits. For that price, it's worth a go. What LED bulbs go into the fogs to replace the existing ones?

And do you disconnect from the normal fog light wiring altogether?

Photo how to would be nice Wink

Useful link from Stan's second ebay post http://www.genlabs.co.uk/support/documents/drlr2.pdf .

@joe..i put 18 smd's leds in , the 21/27 smd's are to large in diameter to go in the fog aperture but ok in the mains..

i cut the fog wiring and connected the wiring from the drl switch...i connected a 50ohm resister to the existing fog wiring to stop the dash errors, i also make sure i dont switch the front fogs on ...

i'll try and get round to doing a video and stick it on youtube..

Could I just reconnect the "old" bulbs to one of these:

might serve as a useful under bonnet light with the right holder Wink

or where would I find the right type of resistor to fix to the wiring? .

on one of my projects i did connect some blue lights mounted under the bonnet and that took the error away ....if you want to go the resister route then ebay has them, get the 50ohm ones... ... - .- -.

I think you can do stuff like this with Navcoder.

I know you can set the light control module to do all sorts inc upto 50% power to main beams as drl's........ 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8
