I’ve been through this thought process many times. The trouble is all the alternatives look Absolutely dreadful. There is no other viable alternative to a FFRR for presence, looks, comfort, power, opulence, sense of arrival. Any of the yank stuff I would get laughed at by friends! Whilst the Rolls or Bentley are beautiful internally the exterior is positively horrid - I just can’t take them seriously - they look like something an aging Pedo rockstar would drive. 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17

The Cullinan looks like a ‘70s custom version of Postman Pat’s van, and the Bentayga looks like a Mitsuoka Q7.

I can tell you what not to choose! I’m on holiday in the UAE at the moment and have rented a ‘Luxury Elite SUV’ (based on my hire car when in Rome princille’ which is an Infiniti QX80. It’s the top spec, so nice to gave cooled seats, semi-aniline leather etc but it’s a proper truck….. the only way it beats the Range Rover is space, as it’s got 7 seats and is longer than an LWB. The main upside is a 5.6 litre V8 without any particulate filters, it does sound rather good and I’m not bothered about 16-17mpg when it cost me £45 to put just over 80 litres in the tank. I had a Navigator in the US last year and it was a much better vehicle, but too big for the UK.

I guess my answer to the question is a Panamera, as that what I replaced mine with, but I can see how most wouldn’t see it as an alternative. MY23 Panamera E-Hybrid

Strangely when you drive one you enjoy the interior beauty and cant see the outside. having ditched my P530 Autobiography because the steering wheel is horrid, almost as bad as the PlayStation screen next to it to distract the driver.
So when you are driving your L460 looking at my Bentley you have to look at horrid inside your car and you think my car looks horrid. I have sumptuous inside mine to look at and your aesthetically pleasing car to look at. letters not necessarily in the right order

Yep and my Aston Martin has Vauxhall Astra stalks, but 37 years later it still smells like it did on day 1 and the leather looks the same but in less than 2 years the 460 seats were beginning to look shabby. letters not necessarily in the right order

I’m glad you like it (and they are clearly good cars), but the veneer of Bentley is almost translucent.

This is timely. I was just in Texas for ten days and was looking at their local cars with interest. And I must say I am drawn to the Escalade (this is one I photographed in Memphis last year).

Defo something Sssssssssangyong going on there…….. is it a Mega Musso?

The perfect replacement for a FFRR is…………

Wait for it………….

Wait for it…………

Wait for it……….. Whistle

(We all know the answer, no need to post again) Laughing “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?
