Probably a long shot, sounds a bit silly but it's easy to check at least. Are the battery terminal clamps done up tight enough and properly seated?

I needed to go out yesterday and it took 3 attempts before it would start, I had the door open so could clearly hear a click from deep in the engine bay which I assume is the starter solenoid.

Had a similar problem on a LR Freelander a few years ago. It was the contacts on the starter solenoid. It was engaging, but no power to the starter motor.

I actually replaced the contacts in mine with an eBay kit been good as gold since. I do prefer to repair if possible rather than just replace I figured the factory genuin must be better than a modern replacment |

Sounds like the starter motor. Pig of a job on the 4.2. I tried 5 times to change mine and when I did manage to remove it I ended up making and welding longer bolts for ease of any further removal. It’ll certainly confuse, and delight, any future custodian! |

I didn't have to replace the starter motor, just the solenoid. It was very accessible on the Freelander, don't know about the L322 All the best
