A little reminder

Was planning on changing my gearbox oil and filter, stuck it in off road height, axle stands etc ready to go, thought I’ll just check the oil temp on the GAP tool and as I did a big rush of air from the front right and down it went, air bag had a sudden failure,

A little reminder I thought to always stop and think before ‘just having a quick look’ under these beasts

On a brighter note the old one came off fairly quickly (following JMCs guide) and I managed to get a replacement on a Saturday delivery from advance factors!

Best to replace the other side as well if the leak was age related rubber deterioration. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

I was apprehensive until I found your guide -

‘First thing to say about the front strut replacement on the later 4.4 TDV8's is that it's much easier that anyone might expect.
We are talking about undoing five nuts on the wheel, three nuts on the strut, a small brass nut for the air, a couple of torx screws and three nuts up top! That's it!!’

Have to say it’s one of the easiest jobs I’ve done!! 1972 Series 3 full of character

I have been thinking this, but where do you stop? Just the other side or all four corners?? 1972 Series 3 full of character

Both fronts on mine were perished equaly badly and so replaced both when one got a leak

I checked the rears and couldn't see anything like the same problem so left them alone. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

Just the other side is enough. Rears are much less of a concern.

It's not a question of IF, but WHEN the other side will go the same way. On top of this, we are talking about the equivalent of the springs and shockers on a 'normal' car in one unit. You really ought to do both sides at the same time. Thumbs Up The older I get, the more I realise that people confuse wrinkles for wisdom Smile

These are one of the easiest things I’ve done on the car, I changed each side on mine in 30 mins from wheels off to wheels on, did one side in my lunch break at work in the rain so was glad it was fast!

I was pleasantly surprised by how easy it was which partially offset the cost. With the benefit of hindsight I’d have just changed the bags. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

You two were lucky, those 2 bottom bolts can be a bit troublesome to say the least, as can one of the ball joints.

Re changing bag, also troublesome to achieve a sealed bag ime...

The price of a full strut is worth it, rather than messing about...

Price of a pair or front struts with variable damping is not at all cheap though. Where did your seals leak when you tried it? 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

Yes- I must admit I was expecting a fight from these, but they came off first time, I didn’t undo any ball joints luckily 2009 (2010 MY) 5.0 Supercharged Autobiography
