Thanks Kevin, Thumbs Up

Will do a search for that post, as I'd love to know how incorrect oil filter installation leads to oil getting into the intake system? I'm speculating it's via a breather if the top of the engine is filling up with oil?

I wonder how many people have shed out an awful lot of money on unnecessary repairs, when the fix may be as simple as the oil filter not being seated correctly on its post?

Don't suppose you ever found the post did you Jon?
Looks like I'm dealing with this same issue, I just don't understand how.

When the drain hole isn't plugged, lots of oil escapes flooding the breather oil extraction chamber causing oil to be passed to the turbo inlet tract.

An unsealed hole also reduces oil pressure to all the bearings etc and empties the filter chamber when the engine is stopped which then has to be filled once the engine starts, so it's imperative that the hole is plugged.

Thank you GraemeS, that makes perfect sense and was pretty much along the lines of what I was thinking.

Thanks Graeme, pretty much what I thought must be happening with oil pooling high up in the engine and making it's way out through a breather.

19pontiac87 - I never did find the post Kevin referred to, but I think Graeme has covered it off above Thumbs Up
