My tdv8 is in the middle of having the turbos replaced among other maintenance. I dropped the whole front subframe, engine and transmission as one unit.

Gearbox out first does make it easier to work around the engine for removal

I have a bad piston. It is not the case of simply dropping the sump. The engine has to come out to do that. 2010 5.0 SC Autobiography Overfinch in Bentley Silk White pearlescent, 22" Overfinch wheels with 285/35x22 tyres |

I have done 2 engine removals in the last couple of years (5.0 Supercharged) and can confirm that it is not necessary to remove the gearbox first. |
