Should I be worried?

Doing the oil cooler on my new to me 2011 4.4, someone’s tried before with some form of sealant round the oil feed pipe into the cooler and rounded the nut off in the process, (that was fun) now I have the cooler off I’m greeted by this

Fairly sure this should be a nice smooth face??

It looks like the oil was leaking from the sealed up feed pipe and possibly the cooler itself, looking at where the oil was.

Should the above be of concern? Should I consider replacing it to?

Here's what I found when I did mine:

I only replaced the gaskets & o-rings, and after 30 months and 25k miles, there's not been any issues or oil loss at all.

There does seem to be quite a bit of recent scratching in there - noticeable on yours that it's over the gasket marks meaning it's not from original production. However, the latest gaskets are larger (beefier) than the originals, so they might do the job there. That said, I'd be seeking another opinion from someone more knowledgeable than me! I think someone has at least tried to clean the surface but used too course a paper. I would block all the passage ways with kitchen towel and use a finer grade abrasive on a flat backing block. Thumbs Up

With the fear of making it worse I did nothing….
I could feel the new cooler assembly was siting nicely on the gasket (if that makes sense) and hoped for the best, so far so good but I guess time will tell

Changed the coolant reservoir surprised by the amount of sludge in the bottom of it, wondering if I should drain the coolant again in a week or so to give it a flush / clean out? 1972 Series 3 full of character
