Be careful with online discount tyres they are often a few years old I bought some Pirellis from Blackcircle last year and they were 2019 - for me no issue as I wear them out in a year but be careful - there are no hard rules on this but I wouldn't go over 5 years old but thats just me

@SandyT

5 years old! Shocked That's not on at all, I'd have rejected them.

General consensus is 10 years is as old as you should run, so at 5 years old they're already half way through their expected life span.

Appreciate what you';re saying about your mileage, though. So was good of you to accept them!

My Dad had cracking between the treads on 3 year old tyres on his (owned from new) BMW X3, only 10K miles on factory fitted tyres, can't remember the brand, possibly Bridgestone.

I've found the Pirelli Scorpion Zero PNCS to be verging on dangerous in the wet. They simply can't move the water away fast enough and the cars will aquaplane about 45 - 50 mph.

I've run these for a year. The front left is on 5mm, the front right 6mm, rear left average of 3mm and rear right is average 3.5mm

I've just bought a new set of Pirelli Scorpion SF2 as I'm diving the car to the Italian Alps this winter and just hate the uncertainty of the PNCS. It is very quiet in the dry however.

Interested to see how the SF2 compares to the PNCS. It is rated better in the wet.

I’d not be surprised you get aquaplaning at those speeds on 3.5mm of tread to be honest but how have you managed to chew through that much rubber in a year Shocked 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

How many miles a year are you covering to chew through that much rubber sir? If normal miles then id seriously suggest getting the setup looked at as somethings up!

This wear is almost exactly 9,000 miles from December 2023 to now.

I appreciate that the rear left tyre has worn slightly more but is was a little out of alignment which is now sorted.

I'm not surprised that the rears are more worn than the fronts. I guess that's just me enjoying the characteristics of the engine. I hate to think how many miles a set of tyres on a swift EV last? Probably down to the shops and back.

Anyway, I'll be keen to see how the SF2's compare.

I've also just learned, from this forum, that I'd have to carry snow chains for our trip to the Alps this winter if I stuck to the PNCS tyre as they do not have the 3PMFS marking on them which the SF2 does.

I got 30k miles out of my last set of Verde's and changed at 4mm and they wore pretty evenly front and rear. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

That’s similar to what most of my customers report on tyre wear hence me asking if something is wrong with the tyre wear on “woodys” car…

I wonder too weather smaller wheel’d cars wear tyres quicker? Ours are running 22 & 23”tyres both Pirelli silents… Most of my regular customers run 21 or 22” tyres, not many are running 20”… Just wondering if the larger tyre walls mean they wear more/quicker?

I'm on 255/55 R20. I reckon I could have got another 5k at least out of them if I'd had them at the right pressure as they wore out on the edges due to my tyre inflator over reading by 3psi... 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

Just having the debate on replacement tyres, I’ve been running Verdes and they’ve been on the car since Ive had it, I put them on about 4 41/2 years ago and I’ve done around 25,000 miles, there is about 4mm left so it’s about time…..

We’ve got a Pirelli centre in burton but even they haven’t got the SF2 in stock. I’m thinking I’ll opt for the zero pncs which is what I have on the D4 at the mo and they seem ok. I really wanted to get the SF 2 but the only place which has them is Oponeo and as previously said there’s no guarantee of age. Speaking to the Pirelli guy they are making another run of the SF2 in Dec for Jan….. so to wait or not 🤷‍♂️

One reason may not to is I’ve just got me a set of 4 new 21” diamond cut wheels and I’m very impatient……

Scorpion Verde

Just testing out my new Pirelli Scorpion Verdes in the snow this morning
They're not quite as good as proper snow tyres but I didn't have any trouble getting up my steep drive

A bit of sliding when braking going downhill but no drama

Bettter than my X5 which makes a fine toboggan in the snow

I should give a mention to Pure Auto Design at Kirk Hammerton near York who supplied a full set of tyres and new refurbed wheels. They specialise in Range Rover

Hi all - does anybody know if Pirelli make the PNCS tyres in 255/55/19? I’m usually on Scorpions and would like to continue using these tyres but would just like a bit of noise cancelling if I can! 2007 Range Rover Vogue 3.6 TDV8
