disable my RR while away.

hi
i really like my 4.4 tdv8 vogue hse.
trouble is, i’ve got to go to away, and have to leave my car in london, and i want to make it as difficult for some ars**ole to relieve me off my lovely rr!!
my plan is to remove the r10 relay, & probably the starter relay also.
my question is….
will the removal of these relays cause any problems, so when i reinstall them, all is fine!
cheers in advance

Hi, If you disconnect the battery before taking any relays out should be fine, just remember to put them in before reconnecting the battery.

In fact better remove the battery all together. I plan to remove the battery and the engine ECU as they're both together in mine, even if they did manage to bring a spare battery along they're not going to get away with simply slotting in a spare ECU.

Just remember, ECU first, then battery Thumbs Up Fuji White 2012 4.4 TDV8 Westmiinster

Is it important to disconnect the battery before removing a Relay?
Just a simple question.
I agree it would be better to remove the battery but in this case it’s not practical.
Just looking for a fairly quick and simple solution.
Obviously, if they pick the damn thing up…. Well it’s gone!

Hi Benjerbustmills, it's up to you, I would say it's not strictly necessary but I've been on this forum long enough to know that they do strange things with the electrics if you mees with them when live.

Besides, how long do you think it would take we with my GAP tool in your ODBII port to know there was a missing relay causing the failure to start.

Come back in an hour with a relay, or swap one over, Bish Bosh, cars away.

As I said, up to you Whistle Fuji White 2012 4.4 TDV8 Westmiinster

Removing the battery and the ECU from a 4.4 TDV8 is not a 5 minute job.

It’s not difficult but it’s not something you’d want to be doing when leaving the car.

There’s no need to disconnect the battery before removing relays either. I’ve read online of cars being destroyed with Stanley knife blades when the thieves haven’t been able to make off with them.

L322’s aren’t keyless entry so they’re nowhere near as easily stolen as an L405. L322 theft is very rare and pretty much unheard of.

Ha Ha, yes, a bit like that, but I've changed so much on mine that every 5 years I'm actually a rotating a new car though my driveway piece by piece

Thanks for your helpful comments!
It would be nice if you could rely on the train…
But you can’t these days!
I have a 405 as well as my 4.4 TDV8, but I think I will be selling the 405, and keeping the real RR.
So it looks like I’ll be removing the relay!
Of course IF someone wants it badly enough, they’ll take it. All you can do is slow the process down, make it more difficult, and hope they move on to something else.
