The centre bearing itself doesn't seem to be the reason for changing the bearing, instead the rubber mount for the centre bearing deteriorates allowing the prop-shaft to flop about. Have another check of the rubber bushing around the bearing. |

Check all 4 tyres tread depth. When I bought mine some plonker had fitted winters on the rear with 11mm tread left and summers on the front with 4mm. This was causing the Transfer box to have a hard time of it whenever I was moving relatively slowly (less than 50mph) and giving it some throttle. Up hill and accelerating at ~30mph would result in a bang bang bang from the transfer case. Felt like driving over a cattle grid to some extent. Cruising down the motorway it wouldn't make the noise. 4 new tyres fitted and all was resolved. Thankfully no lasting damage to the transfer box as far as I can tell. |
