Spain 2012 Range Rover Westminster TDV8 Baltic Blue
Mannol Engine Oil Query

Hi all,

Whilst gathering parts for this year's service, I found 10 litres of Mannol 5W-30 for 48EUR delivered. Per the picture below, it states specifically for Jaguar/Land Rover STJLR.03.5005 - WSS-M2C934-A A/B, code number ´7909´

7909 arrived, but the label is different:

no mention of Ford or JLR specificity. But the code is the same, plus the viscosity. ACEA & API numbers match to.

I will probably send it back, not prepared to wing-it. But what would others do?

I have contacted Mannol to see what the differences are, no answer yet. 2012 4.4 TDV8 Westminster - Baltic Blue, Jet interior
1997 P38 2.5 DSE auto & 1998 P38 2.5 DT Manual
1988 Vogue 3.5 EFI - Manual, gone.
2004 Volvo C70 2.0T convertible, had since new.
2007 Mazda MX-5 2.0 Sport Roadster/Coupé, had since new.
2024 Mini Cooper S cabrio, JCW kit, 2.0, DCT auto

ok, cool - I´ll stick that in the next two oil changes for the MX-5 then.

On order now, 2 x 5 ltr spec C1 Jaguar/Land Rover STJLR.03.5005 - WSS-M2C934B.

47 EUR delivered, which is good.

I hadn't realised only Ford used C1 and probably hence why C1 was withdrawn by ACEA, now obsolete.

I´d be curious to know if anyone is using C2 on the 4.4 TDV8. 2012 4.4 TDV8 Westminster - Baltic Blue, Jet interior

That's fine as your 2008 doesn't have a DPF so any good quality 5w-30 will do the job 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

Hi,

I have used Mannol and Smith & Allan products for a number of years and been happy with both,

wait to see what they reply then decide Question see if they state it still meets the WSS spec

Thumbs Up

I have done exactly the same and have been told it’s an old photo of a barrel and that it needs the c1so I guess that’s another barrel going back!

Yes!

This was their email response:

"Thank you for your enquiry, I will be happy to help you.

It is possible that the Amazon dealer has not updated the images. The oils lose their approval after some time. Because the retailer has not updated the images, you have seen the old container, which still had the approval. However, the new container you received no longer has the approval, which is why you should not use it."

Surely, it’s the same oil!

I too am looking for the correct ‘reasonably priced’ oil to use in my 2017 4.4sdv8 and Mannol seems to fit the bill. Surely, it’s the same oil even though the label no longer has the STJLR.03.5005 quoted on it? I’m actually erring towards the 7908 Energy Premium, which is less than £60 for 20 litres. I’ve checked JLR recommended lubricants and they do say that any ACEA C2 oil may be used if STJLR.03.5005 is not available 🤔

AFAIK the manual says you can top up with C2 in an emergency but it doesn't say you can use it for an oil change. C2 is mid SAPS C1 is Low SAPS - if you have a DPF you should not be using anything but low SAPS. Smith & Allan do reasonably priced 5w-30 C1 oil which you can buy in 5 or 20L quantities - https://www.smithandallan.com/product/smit...e-oil-4127 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)
