Trickle Charge

Hi all,
Is anyone using a quick release trickle charger set up? (Like an optimiser for motorbikes).
Due to work my car can be parked up for 3-4 weeks at a time in the drive and i wamt it to start when i come home
I have an outside weatherproof socket at the front door so power shouldnt be an issue.
Cheers

Hi, I have a CTEK MXS-5 in my garage on the wall, connected to a quick-release socket mounted in the front grille. CTEK do a range of QR accessories to make it simple to set this up. I fished the cable through using duct tape and bicycle outer gear cable, took 2mins:

Better to have the charger indoors, -safer and more secure.
The 12V is better than mains voltage in the rain etc.
CTEK do 12V extension leads also. Not cheap, but you get what you pay for.
A little silicone grease in the socket helps keep the water out. “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

Thanks for the replies

I was considering hiding the charger in the engine bay area while im away so all is locked up. The quick release would just be for simple use with less chance of a crocodile clip maybe jumping off.

Im maybe daft but unsure whats meant with a 12v extension cable?

Definately food for thought.
Cheers

See here under “Accessories”

https://www.ctek.com/uk/battery-chargers-1...mxs-5-0-uk

You mount the charger indoors, and run the 12V cable to the vehicle.

Advantage is, if you forget and drive off, it just unplugs itself & no harm done!
(Ask me how I know….. Whistle Embarassed )

Having the charger unit inside the engine compartment won’t exactly prolong its life, and what happens if it malfunctions and toasts your lovely FFRR? There’s always a risk however small, but if its not there, the risk is zero. “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

@BB: Good man! Thumbs Up
My grille socket is just held in by two small cable ties, it seems to work well enough, cables go directly on to the +/- posts under the bonnet, so it all looks very neat, and easily removed. “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

I wonder how long until some one comes up with electromagnetic induction to keep a car battery topped up, just drive onto an inductive coupling and away you go.... Question Pete
