Dear All,
What I can't confirm is which sensor is Bank 2 - Sensor 2, I believe it to be faulty as reading 0 degrees and volts. But why would this generate a fault code P040D-00 (2F) Exhaust gas recirculation temperature sensor A - circuit high. Why high if 0V?
I can't find it identified on Topix I believe it might be LR035741, Pre DPF Temperature Sensor? Does anyone know? (Left hand side of the engine on the exhaust down pipe - see below) To help trouble shooting, if I disconnect this sensor from the loom what voltage should it be? Am I heading the right direction with my logic based on the IID screen shots attached ![]()

Hi you won't find this on your IIDTool readings. And you will find Sensor 2, Bank 1 etc are dead ends. I've been through a few months of investigation as you may have read in those posts.

A split in any of the 4 short hoses or along one of the seams on the plastic plenum will give rise to restricted performance messages, but not raise any fault error codes. Both are very common failings in 4.4tdv8 l322’s. Mike. G reg 2.5VM Vogue Portofino red 1991- 1999 V reg 2.5td P38 Rioja red 1999- 2006 53 reg td6 Vogue Oslo blue 2006- 2015 11 reg 4.4 TdV8 Vogue SE.
I wouldn't bother, none of those sensors or values affect this error code, just check hoses first. ![]() . Cheers, Greg - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - 2011 Vogue SE 4.4 with lots of toys in Stornaway |

Thank you - hoses first point to check, i'll feed back on findings
I can see some oil/soot on one. NS rear (closest to the bulkhead) It does not look like any are split, but ill need to remove them to see the underside. The car has only been in limp mode in the cold weather Also goes into limp mode when holding it in gear and going down hill. |

The hoses have already been changed to the newer design so should be OK if the clips are tight enough.

Thanks Mike. Good to know they updated them for the 2014 model.

The flutter when backing-off is likely to emanate from the primary, variable vane turbo as it adjusts to accommodate the changed airflow, possibly in conjunction with the closing of the secondary turbo inlet isolation valve. |

Well I still have no idea what Bank 2 Sensor 2 is?
I removed the sensor and it was slightly sooty and with some oil (think I have a turbo issue). To test it's i put a small blow torch on the exposed sensor with the IID tool and could see Bank 2 Sensor 1 increasing from its ground/base value of 100 deg. C.
This was working as it should, but note getting the sensor disconnect would be difficult due to space getting ones hand up. Either drop the gearbox frame or remove the prop shaft.
So I moved to the NS Exhaust Manifold Temperature Sensor LR052169 (9J460D) To test I never removed the sensor, but disconnected it and checked the resistance accross the pins of the sensor plug. The circuit was broken so I knew there was a problem. I checked the new sensor and it has a resistance 250 ohms. I then connected the new sensor to the loom and checked the IID and the fault code disappeared. I then tried to check if this was Bank 2 Sensor 2, however it does not appear to be. Even when heat was applied to the new sensor Bank 2 Sensor 2, voltage and deg. C. remained at 0. To access the sensor on the L405 I removed the fuel filter.
As per advice in the forum, thanks, I intentionally broke the sensor to get a 6 sided socket over the sensor. This was required as I needed to put a high torque on It to remove it.
On another not could limp mode be generated by a leaking turbo?

The ECU needs it but it's undocumented as far as the IID values go. I even asked Gap why not and they said it is not a monitored value as far as LR goes so it's not included. . Thanks @gonna_go_double_r. The effort in your write up really helped get the sensor change in an afternoon as opposed to a long time head scratching - which is evident you had to do! |

Isn't this noise just a turbo actuator. (Dump valve )letting off pressure .

Landyandy1765, I think you are correct. The noise was nothing to do with the problem. The issue was a different temperature sensor that wasn't showing up on the fault code reader. The faulty temperature sensor was just before the cat and DPF.
|
