The brass fitting might simply not be tight enough unless you've already checked.

I have Graeme, I gingerly attempted to tighten it but as I went tighter it leaked more and didn't feel like it was snugging up but more like it was going to strip or snap.

I backed it off to where it was before, I am really tempted to remove the compressor and look properly underneath to see if the plastic is cracked or if it just a problem with the fitting but I am refraining as I don't want the dealer to turn round and accuse me of messing therefore causing the leak.

Following-up on the Defender's harsh ride, it appears from monitoring live values with an IIDtool that the shocks aren't receiving any power at all while moving which explains the harshness - zero demanded duty cycle, zero demanded current and zero actual current. At least the owner now has evidence of a malfunction to pursue with the dealer.

Wow that's an interesting one Graeme, did I recall you saying the Defender didn't show any fault codes?

Hopefully the owner can get that one figured out with the dealer.

Mine does show current to the dampers and I can see the values change while driving etc so theoretically the system is working.

Just waiting for my appointment at LR now re the compressor leaking at the fitting but struggling to figure out in my head if this could cause degradation in ride quality

I'm pretty sure a leak at this point wouldn't affect the amount of air in the bags themselves due to the solenoid valves etc stopping air leaking back from the bags and reservoir.

I also need to find some more time do I can go test drive another similar car for more comparison reasons.

Watching this post with great interest as I had a 2016 L450 with same problems 😂 very harsh ride , new air bags and vds shockers front and new vds rear shockers all checked for live values , control arms link bars, tyres etc , didn’t make the slightest difference , ended up P/x ing the car as not a nice place to be although when I first got the car it was perfect , damper live values were checked while driving with iid tool and looked ok always wondered if it could have had something to do with the air crossover valves or front and rear air control valves ?? May never know now 😂 Last night I lay in bed looking up at the stars in the sky and I thought to myself, where,s the f**king ceiling!!

Glad to know I'm not alone aljo as far as harsh riding l405s go.

As mentioned many many times I've had 2 l322s which also rode harsh and I changed all the shocks on one of them like you did on your 405 and it made barely any difference.

What are you driving now then aljo?

I’ve gone onto a 2020 se p400e. Totally different beast 👍👍 Last night I lay in bed looking up at the stars in the sky and I thought to myself, where,s the f**king ceiling!!

Well that's both good news that your happy with the newer car and also that I'm not imagining this but also bad news a cause for the stiff ride wasn't found on your old one.

Hope all those new parts were covered under warranty and not out of your own pocket?

How did you find the steering weight and engine response on your old one?

The steering always pulled slightly to the left and geometry was dealer checked a few times and once by an independant hunter alignment specialist and all within spec, but the engine did seem to get a bit "laggy" and your certainly not imagining the ride ! the slightest bump or pothole at low to mid speeds was unbelievable for a car like this
Going round the concrete section of M25 in surrey was shocking to say the least Big Cry Big Cry
no fault codes every showed for suspension and of course if no codes then the dealers say it is fine ?? Censored Censored Last night I lay in bed looking up at the stars in the sky and I thought to myself, where,s the f**king ceiling!!

Great feedback aljo thank you.

Mine doesn't pull thankfully, it tracks straight and true but the steering most of the time feels weightier and more resistive than I feel it should.

A bit like I'm driving around with the tyres uninflated (which I am at the moment because of the ride but even when I set them correctly it only makes the tiniest of perceivable difference)

I won't bother taking it to a main dealer for the ride quality complaint as like you say no fault codes then they think its fine.

I may eventually take it to a specialist but want to wait for the leak at the compressor to be sorted first before making any more decisions on what to do with it.

I did at one point after months and months of harsh ride quality have approx 2 weeks of it working fine gliding throuh potholes ect and even my partner in the passenger seat said she could feel the difference so I certainly dont think I was imagining it
And of course when it went back to the normal harsh ride it was again noticed by my partner
air valve problems / electrical problems/ other ?? I just couldnt find it and unfortunately was that bad I just had to get rid of it Big Cry
I really hope you can find the problem as it is certainly not a characteristic of these vehicles unlike the the dealers who think it is fine Last night I lay in bed looking up at the stars in the sky and I thought to myself, where,s the f**king ceiling!!

No faults and assessed by 2 different LR dealers as nothing wrong. The owner of an independent LR workshop's recent comment after a brief drive was that the ride was like a D4 at super-extended height, with no suspension give.

If your vehicle doesn't show a normal height only message then the leak won't be affecting the operation off the EAS system. However checking that there isn't a height sensor with values jumping about would be worthwhile as that would afect CVD operation. Better to use the IDtool to display height sensor live values from the damper section rather than rely on the 4x4 display as those values are smoothed.

I too have had similar but limited only to 1 drive in a single day never a whole week of it being okay.

What size wheels did you have on yours?

I've just read back through your posts aljo and you actually commented on one of my old 322 threads about this referencing having the same problems on your 405.

I'd commented back saying it wasn't good to hear as I'd eventually like to upgrade to one and now look where we are Big Cry

I am completely unable to get my head round how this has affected the 3 cars I've owned now fitted with CVD suspension.

It's all that ever occupies my mind and it is completely and utterly exhausting.
