My offside deployable side step is jammed open. Do I need to dismantle everything to try and free it, or is it more likely the motor is faulty?

Some history: the side step spent a little bit of time jammed in the "mostly closed" position, but now it's jammed fully open. I can hear the motor attempting to shift it and it does wobble a bit when it thinks it should retract, but it doesn't move.

Any and all ideas gratefully received! There's a fair bit of info on side steps on here, but it's taking me some time to wade through it all so I thought I'd ask.

If you can hear the motor trying then there is 'some' life in it - Others I have read suggest copious amouints of wd40 on the motor/pins and leave to soak for quite a while (then do it again) and manually 'help it' to retract when you close the door.

If you get it working again, apply plenty of grease on the moving parts.

ITs hit n miss if its already sticking but you don't have much to lose at this point Ash

Yes, the motor is doing its best to retract the step, but it's not for budging!

Being vertically challenged, I quite like the side steps - and I prefer the deployable type to the fixed ones. I gather Land Rover no longer make them. Am I setting myself up for lots of expense if I want to replace one or both? Is it even possible?

If anyone’s interested - I managed to fix the jammed step. I cleaned the general filth off it, gave it a wipe down and then applied loads of PTFE lubricant. That made it move a bit, so I’ve been giving it a bit of a shove every morning and topping up the PTFE. It looks as though the pins were seized.
