Smoke from.under the car

Hi all

Bit of a strange one

Once my Tdv8 3.6 has warmed up, if I spend any time stationery in traffic with engine on I start getting plumes of exhaust smoke/grey smoke from under the engine/ under the car?

Any ideas?

It smells too!!!

I get the same occasionally…but not often.
I always put it down to the FBH

The exhaust for the FBH is down where the passenger side mudflap fastens on. In case your smoke came from a totally different area, and it will only run whilst the engine warms up and outside temp is low….

Kind of diesel smell/exhaust?

Does the FBH come on automatically? I don't have it switched on via the onboard computer - it's left on manual

Thanks

Mine puffs out smoke from the OS wheel arch occasionally when it's cold outside and the FBH is working. The FBH is on the NS so no idea why but it smells of burning diesel. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

It will fire up when the ambient is below 5deg. C and the coolant temperature is below (I think!) 75 deg. C. It will also fire up if the cabin heat demand cannot be fulfilled by the engine coolant temperature. The manual controls are additional to the above, not an override. The exhaust is angled under the vehicle, not to the outside, depending on the prevailing wind, it can appear from anywhere around the vehicle.

Or you could have a hole, crack etc in your engine exhaust pipe...... Pete

If that were the case, then there'd be running issues with exhaust smoke that colour if it was from the engine rather than the FBH

Mine’s definitely FBH smoke. My thermostat is leaking so engine temps often dip below 75 deg during cold weather and the FBH helps out. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)
