Hi all the smell this morning was shocking inside the car noticed it more when stationary obviously not very healthy to be inhaling. I got out lifted the bonnet and the wisp off smoke was coming from back centre of engine not full on smoke but slight wisping.Thoughts possibly oil cooler dripping any other ideas?

The cross-over pipe is wrapped in a protective covering. Hence dripping oil doesn't drip directly onto hot steel pipe, instead onto hot material that causes the oil to vaporize more slowly, exactly as you describe.

Reviving this one, I have a similar issue, a wisp of smoke coming out from behind the engine. I had the oil cooler done as it was leaking, its been over a month so any residue must have burnt off by now.

I found a slight drip of oil on a rubber hose on the front left underneath, I think a pipe to the oil cooler? I cleaned it off and it hasn't come back.

There is a bit of water (?) on the transmission undertray, it doesn't look like coolant or oil.

Other than that I can't find anything obvious. It usually happens after a motorway drive so the DPF regen idea is interesting, it might not be quite long enough on the motorway to complete the regen. Although I have had a couple of long drives a few weeks ago and it still comes back.

I do have a slightly warped front left brake disk but I think it smells more like burning oil than brakes.

Did you ever get to the bottom of it?
