Being an anorak, the most obvious difference is the C post, followed by the lack of fin on the roof. Land Rover Addict

Anorak here too...Land Rover badge on the boot gives the game away. I still don't understand why people facelift their vehicles...surely it's just passing it off as something it's not - the car hasn't been designed to work with these components surely? 2010+ has an entire new electronics system.

Also just noticed another pet hate...an Autobiography badge. Why just why?

i dont think so its just enhancing the look of your car in my opinion no differant to changing the wheels

mind you i agree with the badge if it is not an autobiography then dont badge it up as if it is "RANGEISM WILL NOT BE TOLERATED"

I've aired my opinion on whether it increases the value or not to me personally, but as we are guests on Grant's thread about his converted car we ought to perhaps curtail our opinions a bit (maybe?). I think the components are fine - just lights bumpers and grilles after all.

Mirror caps would look nice body coloured rather than chrome in my opinion though Wink

All comments welcome, positive or negative. If you can't stand the heat get out of the kitchen is my motto.

When I booked in for the conversion I didn't realise they were going to put the Autobiography badge on - if they told me I would have said to just stick with a Vogue badge as I think it's going a bit too far saying Autobiography when it isn't.

I couldn't find the mirror caps in body colour - so went with the chrome. Compared to body coloured I now prefer it!

I think a lot of things are down to personal preferences - given the choice we would all probably spec up a new car from scratch slightly differently.

Yep, I agree it is passing it off as something it isn't - am I bothered Rolling with laughter

I have to say that I like the finished result. It looks good. Thumbs Up

But... there is no way I could personally pay less than 10k for any vehicle and then spend 30% more than it's value to change the lights and grille. But I understand why people do. It's keeping up an image, which is not something I go for.

It does look a lot later, but I'm not a fan of cheap plates either.
It actually makes it look older than the conversion to me. I kind of expect people that can afford a late model (as it looks like one) Range Rover to be able to afford a more exclusive private plate (or not care), or at least if it's a 1999 T reg that means something to put a proper rear Range Rover shape plate and not one that looks like it came from the local motor factors for £5.

Minor criticism, change the rear plate for a LR dealer one I think it'd look better IMO.

My £££ logic was that I would be keeping the car for at least four years - so the investment is spread over a period of time and should still give the appearance of not being a 10 year old car. I could have bought a later model for the total cost but preferred to spend the moeny on the conversion.

The plates were the freebies that Dagenham Motors sent me when I P/xed a car with them a few years ago - but now you've pointed it out I agree a proper full size RR plate would look better.

Your money , your choice , as long as you are happy and like it and couldn't give a monkeys about the cost of the conversion , anyhow 9 out of ten people wouldn't know your car was a 2003 model , as the old saying goes "up em" ..

Car looks spot on have to say Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Surely the point is why do you care if people know it's a 2003 car?

Grant,
Car looks great from the pics. The chrome is nice, not to in your face or overly cheesey like some. As for price i would pay a bit more for the same car facelifted but not a great deal more. I dont have £80K to go out and buy a new 4.4TDV8 but i love my 04 RR and the only thing i would change it for would be a new one. I love the looks of the 4.4 but they wont be in my price range for a few years so if i had the spare money to convert i would. In my opinion a lot of the joy of owning any car (FFRR to Lambos and Astons etc) is looking at it from the lounge window and thinking "thats mine" and feeling proud. I do that with my 04 and would feel just as proud if it was a brand new one. Now if i could get the same feel good factor and not have to take the pain of £80K i would every day of the week.
just my 2p worth
P.s The autobiograpy started when landrover let anyone with money put anything on their car from hidious paint colors to expensive gun racks in the boot. You have an autobigraphy that YOU have chosen to spec up beyond the standard options and spec list. A true atuobiography keep the badge!
P.P.S Private plates are great on many fronts. If you dont care about the plate its a very cheap way of having the posh RR look and hiding the plate. My private plate is personal to me and something i will pass on to my kids. They look better on cars. I got my son a private plate for his 1st birthday, mad i know but when the 11 reg came out its the only time i had the opertunity to buy a plate with his name. When he's old enough to put it on his car it will surve the same purpose as my plate does to me.
