i think so long as you keep photos of the conversion before during and after that will ensure that those potential buyers know that it was only done for the love of the car and not to hide the fact it had been in a accident.....i would say it withy out a doubt adds value but how much must depend on what the buyer sees it worth "RANGEISM WILL NOT BE TOLERATED"

I don't think that sort of mod adds any value when selling on the car. However I would imagine it makes the car easier to sell as it has something extra compared to a car of the same age etc. I've spent nearly 3k on wheels, interior and tints and my car is still worth the same as it would be without these improvements. I only made the changes as I intend on keeping the car for a good 3-5 years and I wanted em. FFRR TD6 HSE

I agree with a lot of the above but lets not lose sight of the fact that a properly converted car includes quite a lot of pricey original 2010 equipment and completed projects can undoubtedly look very similar to actual 2010+ cars.

I think if nothing else they make an older higher mileage car stand out and give the buyer a reason to consider it and for that alone its adding value.

Not everyone would feel the same as me, but you asked for opinions and I offered mine so from that perspective I haven't lost sight of any facts. I think my point is that it doesn't matter at all to me what cost the conversion would have been, nor does it matter that the eventual look is very similar to a 2010 car. It just adds no value to it in my eyes because I have no interest in making an older car look like a newer one.

People should do a conversion if they want to though. I would never say don't do it; Grant's car looks nicely done.

I agree with you all. I don't think putting a 2010 front on a 2003 car would make it worth more than the combined sum of car and conversion so therefore it doesn't add value in pure financial terms. Would it help to sell the car - given the choice of the exact same car with or without the conversion, would you pay even a little bit more for it? I think even the most hardened sceptic would say yes.

Given the choice of the same two cars I would pay circa £2,5k more if it was done professionally; but I had the conversion in mind from the start. A buyer who has no interest in the conversion I guess would be willing to part with only a little extra.

The reason I had it done is because of cost and pure vanity. My wife's not a car buff but she can tell a 2010 model from a 2003 model...just Rolling Eyes . So she feels like she's driving a 2010 car as, compared to an actual 2010 car, they're 95%+ the same on the outside. I score some brownie points and it leaves me with more cash to spend on my track car Very Happy Anyway, I don't have £80k to spend on a RR! - so she's having that or she can stick with the Disco Razz .

I'll try and get some more pics posted later this week.

im sure the right person would pay more for that car than the same car with the originol front and for those like ric who dont feel its worth anything more well thats fair and as he said his opinion as they would only be intrested in buying the model they want so in fairness are not the market this car would be aimed at... for people like myself who dont have a spare £80,000 sitting in the bank but do have a pre 2010 range rover and want that look then fairplay to you i for one am all for it...........ive been searching the net for cars with the conversion for sale and they seem to be asking for £6k more than the same car without it....the key word being ASKING "RANGEISM WILL NOT BE TOLERATED"

I think the conversions look really good and I can totally see the benefit in buying an older car that's in great shape with lots of life left in it and doing this.

One thing which I'd love to know about is insurance. I assume that you can't do something this drastic to the car without notifying your insurers and wondered what sort of view they have on it? And of course, how did it affect the premium?

I don't have an issue with people upgrading the look of their older cars to the newer model. It is exactly what LR did, the car is essentially the same as a 2003 with a few mechanical and cosmetic upgrades. On the other hand trying to make a P38 look like a L322 is way wrong....

I am divided on whether I would upgrade to the 2011 kit in the future as I like the original pre 2005 look as well. Maybe if I get bored I will do it, and keep the old kit so I can convert it back if needed. Tom

The wheels, chrome door handles and window tints were all on the car when I bought it. The car is in immaculate condition throughout and I paid £9,600 for it; the only two faults being a slight scuff on the rear o/s wheel and very slight wear on the drivers side bolster. Full service history 103k miles. I had to fix a leaking trans pipe which I knew about and cost £150. I also had the car checked over by LR and other than a lower ball joint they gave it a clean bill of health. So with the conversion and the other bits it stands me in about £13,700.

I reckon on getting about £500 in total from the sale of the parts; so a net cost of about £13,200 - which I think is good value for the end result.

I'm probably going to do a replacement Multimedia install with Bluetooth, Sat Nav, Ipod and new colour screen-I've seen the itravee idea but fancy something a bit more. Anybody tried something like this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260778746532&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT Any suggestions welcome.

When I picked the car up from LR after the repairs the battery was dead and subsequently has had to be replaced - strange that one as it was working perfectly fine before. I guess that short battery life is one of the symptoms of highly electronic cars. I have also noted that the steering column doesn't reach but adjusts for height. I'll have a go at lubricating the motor myself.

I'm sure I'll get a lot out of using this forum and hopefully I can contribute.

If you don't mind opinions I would say the chrome stuff detracts from the 2010MY look, and to the trained eye flags it quickly as a fake, not helped by the Range Rover Sport Stormer wheels.

Now, if it was rid of the chrome tinsel and had an up to date set of alloys it would pass every day of the week as a real one from the outside.

Still lovely though, you got a bargain there. Thumbs Up

Edited: (Gazellio has some wheels for sale, they are the older SC ones, but not the 2010MY models, still an improvement on RRS Stormers perhaps?) Discovery 4 HSE

Yeah it is a bit "chromy" but when I look closely where you can see inside the door pulls at the bits of the old door handles you can see that they are really badly faded underneath. That's why the previous owner changed them - I've noticed how bad they look on other older RR's as well. I quite like them though.

If my Brother comes over this week in his dark blue 11 plate TDV8 I'll try and get some side by side pics.

Likewise - it devalues the car for me.
