L405 oil change

Am I missing something here. Always stuck a new sump plug on when I did my L322 oil change, whats a couple of quid. Been looking on the net for an L405 Td6 sump plug....£9 odd plus P&P !!

Gold plated ? Made out of Swan ?

Why? The dealer and shops don’t.

Use a new copper washer and call it a day. Dan. 🇨🇦 2013 L405 5.0 SCV8

Not a fan of this method. How much sludge remains at the very bottom of the sump, building up over the years before becoming instrumental in blocking the turbo oil feeds and leading to an explosion in your wallet ?

Been proven on here many times over the years... Sucking gets 99.9% of the oil out, remove the sump bolt after sucking it up leaves like a 1/4 of a pint! and where the sump drain is means the new oil dilutes the remaining oil almost instantly... Thumbs Up

Don't forget there's significantly more oil left in the galleries and oilways, hydraulic tappets etc.
IIRC the bottom of the sump drain is actually above the bottom of the oil drain pickup pipe anyway.

I've removed plenty of Lion & Lion derived engine sumps and never had any 'sludge' in there - which would have to build up to pretty high levels before it was drawn up the oil pickup pipe and into the filter. Maybe in the 1970's but not with engines and lubricants from this century.

So if you still need to undo the bloody big metal undertray and take the sump plug out , you might as well stick it on a ramp and do the whole job by draining.!

I did an oil change yesterday with my new vac pump, so easy to use.
I did also take out the sump plug as I had one to change and an egg cup if that came out.

In that case the suck-out method is the way to do it and save the £10 new sump bolt price also. Thumbs Up

You need one with a minimum tank capacity of 10 litres to guarantee no spillage.
I have been using a Draper one for several years now and have been very happy with it.
