2010-2012 MY Heater blower motor change -HELP!

There is a lot of information on the 2002 to 2009 MY cars but nothing I could find on the 2010-2012 cars. The symptoms I had were a blower motor working intermittently, squeaking and finally giving up. The 2010-2012 cars do not have the hedgehog FSR like the earlier cars and I could not find a blown fuse. Given the noise etc I decided I had no choice but to replace the motor.

I found the motor to be stiff, and smell burnt out but with no obvious damage to any wiring so I replaced with a new unit. Unfortunately I still don't have a working blower. Can anyone point me to a wiring diagram so I can check the relay that presumably powers this? What fuse protects that relay as it is not obvious from the owners manual. Is there an FSR in a different location and of a different type?

If anyone else needs to do this I have summarized the steps below - there are no shortcuts like the earlier cars and I think it took me about 12-14 hours to do. If I did another one I think you could probably cut that down to 8 hours

1. End of dash vents a trims off – 4 clips in vent, end panel unclip, 3 torx screws plus electrical connectors
2. Centre console move back – Side trims off, centre panel and cubby box unscrewed and removed – need to pop out small trim at bottom of heater panel to access. 4 10mm bolts to car body removed before sliding back. Heater duct needs to be disconnected also that goes to the rear blower
3. Upper glovebox removal and trim above glovebox
4. Lower glovebox removal including kick panel trim on side of console and trim above footwell
5. Driver side footwell trim removal including below dashboard – all torx screws
6. Steering wheel removal and trim behind – need some rods to pop out airbag, then undo big nut on steering wheel. Trim is held on by torx screws underneath – 1 of these is very deep into the plastic
7. Top dash removal - 7 bolts on top of dash, centre vents unclipped and removed, 2 nuts above glovebox removed
8. Nav screen removal – 4 torx screws
9. Digital dash screen removal – 4 torx screws
10. Heater panel control removal – torx screws on outside and unplug connectors
11. Middle air vents and starter switch panel pulls off with no other fittings – tight fit and then undo Bowden cable and electrical connectors
12. There is a vent pipe that goes to the digi dash that needs to be removed and then follow that pipework downwards you will see another duct connected to this which also needs to be removed. There is a torx screw in both
13. Remove both A piller inside trims – pop out the airbag logo and undo the 13mm nut behind here and then unclip the trim
14. You should now have removed everything from the large plastic frame that goes over the whole dash except for some cables that are clipped on in the extreme left and right corners and in the centre. Remove around 10 torx screws, unclip the cables and then take the plastic frame off. It may need a wiggle as the centre vent ducts hold it on. There is also a clip in the middle of the dash which helps locate it back
15. Undo the Bowden cable to the ducting in the top middle, torx screws at the back and pivot it backwards to remove. Don’t drop anything down here where the heater matrix is!!!
16. You can now see the cover for the blower, undo the torx screws and take the cover off, it is a very tight fit past the cables
17. You can now finally see the motor , undo the 3 torx screws and the electrical cable and it will be able to be removed
18. Refitting is the reverse of removal as they say

I assume you have got the Workshop Manual? Is it no use for troubleshooting?

No - I do not have a workshop manual. All the RAVE manuals end before 2010 so I am completely in the dark and have not been able to find anything.

Is there a link to a manual?

It has a blower control module (FSR) - see Workshop manual - Heating and Vent - component location. It shows a picture of an FSR aka hedgehog Gone to a good home: 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

. Operation of the electric motor is controlled by the ATC module via the blower motor control module

Looks like it just the same as an earlier car. Remove trims etc.

I do hope you didn't remove all the dash for nothing though

One trick I read was to try and spray the blower motor spindle through the intake vents once the pollen filter housing is removed. Gone to a good home: 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

Thanks, been looking through the manual - last time I looked at the Wiki I could have sworn there was not a manual there but I can't have looked properly!! Would have been very useful before I took the dash apart!!!

So in summary the power to the blower is supplied via fuse 21R in the boot which should be the first port of call, this supplies power to the Module - Blower motor control front (is this the FSR?) I could not see it in the normal place when I had the dash apart but I could be wrong. Your comment mentions in the outlet of the RH fan which does indicate it is in the same place - it certainly could not be seen in there like you can on the earlier cars

The Integrated climate control panel then provides the signal to turn the blower on. The Blower module control then powers the blower

What else does fuse 21R power I wonder?

I am pretty confident I did not as the motor was very stiff like the bearings had gone and it smelt like it had started to burn out. I just wish it all worked again!!

Just looking through the owners manual and fuse 21R is not listed anywhere. The diagram in the workshop manual would indicate it is in the boot to me. Am I reading it wrong?

Britpart have just confirmed the same part number for the FSR is showing as valid against the VIN of this car. I am hoping it is a simple cash of the dying blower killing the FSR

Won’t be wasted work, as the FSR wouldn’t have made the motor noisy or sticky.

2016 Range Rover Autobiography SDV8 Loire Blue

I have unfortunately had to replace my Heater motor twice, both times I followed the information in the"wiki" and did not have to dis-assemble the whole dash, it came out the top. Second time around was a lot quicker about 5 hrs start to finish
