L322 TDV8 4.4 - Forward Alert Not Available

Afternoon all,

I've got the Forward Alert Not Available message popping up on my dash on startup. This is followed after a short drive by:-

Now, the first time this happened I was driving round a roundabout. As I exited and accelerated it felt like the front right brake slammed on (think the car was trying to kill me). On other occasions, the traction control will cut power whilst accelerating. I've found that disabling the traction control before setting off stops these other issues but that still leaves me with the warning messages and finding the underlying fault.

A brief bit of research suggested that it's tied to a knackered battery and some CPU's maybe not getting a full blast of electricity on start up but, I have a two battery system in my car so that shouldn't be the problem. In fact, yesterday I took the fully charged rear battery out and dropped it in the front of the car and I still get the messages.

In terms of maintenance, the car in the just short of 2 years of ownership has had a new alternator and 3 new ride height sensors (both rears and the passenger side front). Both jobs cured the issues I was having at the time so I don't think it's anything to do with those jobs.

I've seen that the forward sensor is mounted on a fairly flimsy bracket onto the bumper and this can, with a car park manouvering speed bump, be deflected and cause an issue but there is no evidence of any kind of impact on the front bumper so I'm guessing it's not that.

So, good folks of the FFRR Forum, has anyone else come across this or have any knowledge on how to fix it?

Have you checked the wires that go to the top of the front suspension struts? if one is broken that also affects the forward alert, the wires are flimsy they were uprated in later cars as they move on top of the struts.

The other system warnings indicate it may be speed sensor / brake pedal switch or similar cause.
As ever, a DTC read will give more detail and narrow down the cause, before that, it's just 'dartboard diagnostics'.

Can’t see it being the wires to the front struts, as that will throw an Adaptive Dynamics Fault on the dash and the suspension will go rock solid.

I’m no expert, but I’d look at ABS sensors as that could be a cheap fix…

Have checked the wires on the struts on both sides and no sign of damage. I'll break out the IID over the weekend and see if that helps to pinpoint the issue. If not, remaining ride height sensor and ABS sensors will have to be ordered. Never a dull moment with a FFRR, eh?

Mine always did this when it threw up an Adaptive Dynamics fault when mid drive. It was almost like that error set off everything else.
A few others have reported similar behaviour in the Adaptive Dynamics fix thread.

It *could* be something else causing it rather than the module itself.

Right then. Plugged the trusty old IID tool into the car at the weekend which brought up the following

Is there anywhere on the forum, or internet, that gives a plain English explanation of the above and the remedial action required?

Well, looks like it was as simple as re-calibrating the Steering Angle Sensor. All warnings gone, and the car is purring like a kitten.
