So I’m a bit confused. The Owners Handbook I have states Shell ATF M1375.4 as ‘Main Gearbox Oil” but on researching this all I find is that this is for 6-speed auto’s, and I have the 8-speed! I had been looking to buy this https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/303956199778?ha...3126959498 assuming it was correct as per 8-speed box but now having decided to check with the Handbook I’m lost - could I have a wrong/replacement Handbook? Can anyone advise? Cheers, Steven.

I contacted Smith and Allan and they confirmed that the one you have looked at on Ebay is the correct oil and it will mix ok with the ZF oil that will remain in the system. Hope this helps.

I did also end up contacting them too and when they used my reg to confirm details it came back as the 6-speed ATF version?? They recommended I contact LR direct for confirmation… all seems a bit more confusing than it should be Will do that tomorrow Cheers, Steven.

Not so much that they agreed, but that their systems did show it as requiring M1375.4 ATF but did state that that was unusual given the 8-speed box. I’ll contact LR todays for their verification. Cheers, Steven.

Well… early call to local LR dealership (Taggarts) advised the correct spec as per reg & VIN for the car is M1375.4, even though it is an 8-speed box? I’m now even more confused… Feel as though I should obviously go with the spec advised and noted in the Handbbok too.

Could someone else with a circa 2012 4.4 TDV8 verify what their Handbook specifies regards ATF??  Cheers, Steven.

AG60 is also an appropriate ATF.

Although, when I last looked (last week), buying the genuine ZF Lifeguard 8 oil and sump as a kit was about the same price as buying a different brand.

Hi Steven. Just checked my handbook and it says the same as yours.
If it helps, I had my oil changed at an official ZF gearbox approved garage and it had ZF lifeguard 8 put in. There is an obvious info mistake somewhere here mate. Ring a ZF approved garage up and ask them what grade they would put in if you need more reassurance.

My MY12 handbook also specifies the M1375.4 but also lists both gearboxes so I'd suspect it's an error /omission. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

You want Lifeguard 8 Automatic Transmission Fluid.

You've got a wide choice of:
Shell
Genuine ZF Lifeguard 8 (it is a ZF transmission, not Land Rover)
Smith & Allen (as you've already linked)
Mannol AG60

If you check the data sheets for any oil, they list the specifications they conform to. If in doubt, look at what the gearbox manufacturer specify for their gearbox (ZF Lifeguard 8 ). 2015 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 SDV8

But that's the confusion, we know it needs lifeguard 8 and the handbook is saying Shell 1375.4 which is Lifeguard 6.
