| Rear quarter rust / bumper hangers | |
Gave the car a proper wash and polish the other week, and found that the pimple of rust I spotted a month back on the n/s rear quarter, has grown to a larger scab of rust.
So with the long weekend, thought I'd take the bumper off and remove the inner boot trim and have a look. It's a bit grim...
Small on the outside
Large on the inside.
The o/s has no rust showingon the outside, but thought I'd better check the inside....
Not as bad, but not great.

Despite looking bad, this was surface rust and cleaned up back to fresh metal quite easily. On with some Bilt Hamber rust treatment and painted the next day, and later with some anti corrosion wax. Think I'll also add a small drain hole too.
Anyway, repair came out OK and looks to have been caught just in time.
As for the nearside, going to take some surgery I'm not capable of. Any US members breaking rust free dry state cars they can take a cut from ?
Also, anyone know what kind of fixings these are on the bumper hangers in the first pic ? Look like some kinda specialist rivet, is there an alternative ?
If you have a rust-free example and want to keep it that way, might be worth having a look. If you do and find the above style horror, don't blame me for the bill
