L405 jacking pad solution - home made

Home made wooden (female) L405 jacking pad created today from a roof truss off-cut. Works perfectly on a Sealey 3040AG trolley jack fitted with a round rubber jacking pad.. Just the right size, correct strength, wood doesn’t split under load and the wooden block doesn’t slip whilst sitting on the rubber jacking pad when the car is being raised or lowered. Thought this worth sharing because despite doing lots of research, never quite known what type pad to order online for the L405. Hope it’s of some use to someone 👍🏻

Measured the shape/ space around the L405 jacking point and also measured the (male) jacking point that’s underneath the car. Then drew out the measured sizes on to the wood off-cut. Then used Stanley knife, saw and hammer/ wood chisel to create a suitably sized/ shaped wooden jacking pad. Then wrapped the home made wooden pad in Duct tape to stop it slipping on the round trolley jack; and to stop anyone throwing it out if they stumble across it - ie without the ‘special tape’
they could just think it’s a useless old piece of wood 😂

Pad dimensions as pictured are (approx.):
9.5 cm long - image 2
6 cm wide - image 3
4.5 depth/ height - image 4
Female jacking point recess - 9.5 cm long x 1.5 cm depth/ height - image 5

If you are going to use wood, use hard wood, sorry but I personally would not be trusting that Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter 2018 SE SDV8 4.4 Byron Blue

If the type of wood can bear a heavy roof structure, it should be ok bearing one corner of a RR as a cushioning/ gripping pad.

Thanks for the concern… main thing is, you don’t need to try it 👍🏻

Ps… resorted to home making this type pad after reading reviews about so called professionally manufactured rubber ones that had split under 4x4 load.

I have always used a piece of timber as a cushion between a jack and a car jacking point, usually a bit of cls timber or any lump of 100x50mm lying around. Done it for over 50 years and never had an issue. Personally l would always use a softer wood in preference to hardwood as l find soft wood gives a bit and grips rather than sliding about on hardwood.
Suffice to say l also always use axle stands as well…….with a lump of wood between it and the car. Very Happy
