You mean the oil return pipe from turbo to sump? This should definitely be clear otherwise the oil can't circulate through the shaft bearings. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322) |

I imagine you could just take the filter bit out, that’s solid, and see how it runs.

Pretty sure that will sort it mate. Get a later vortex one ordered for a BMW…. Not Land Rover or you will get the crappy design you already have.

Like this, most folk change the whole unit, but you can just get the vortex bit and cut some plastic tabs and fit to yours.

Probably chucking the crud out. Filter tends to always gets missed when servicing at a garage, and causes all sorts of issues. That’s why BMW changed the design, but that was after they had sold Land Rover.

I fitted a K&N air filter element too, which I get the pros and cons of these things, but that meant the engine cover didn’t have to come off at all when servicing…. Unless you wanted to check the air filter…. 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

A blocked crank breather can force oil out of the turbo seals (and cause smoke) as it pressurises the return to the sump. Common issue on old diesel cars where sooty blowby gases mixed with oil and water vapour create a nice black tar. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322) |

Ok thats helpful info , as above , instict / experience tells me the turbo is ok and hopefully with the breather renewed the residue in the exhaust will burn off , if not i have a new charger i can fit anyway |
