TDV8 turbo replacement engine in CAR.

I am dreaming about buying a TDV8 however the turbo issues scares me a bit. Can the turbos be replaced with the engine in the car? Can it be done by a skilled hobby mechanic??

Go for the 4.4 TDV8 and you will have much less to worry about. More expensive? Yes. But probably cheaper in the long run. 2006 4.2 SC

I have to be honest, I saved longer to get the 4.4 as I didn't need the worry - however valid,

I know it's not answered your question...... 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

I'm just wondering how many people who say 3.6 tdv8 turbos go reguarly actually have owned one and have had the turbos fail???? Or is it I heard it from a bloke who knew a bloke who might have had a problem?

By the way it is mainly tdv8 Range Rover sports that have turbo problems as the engine bay is smaller and there is less air flow.

4.4 turbos actually have problems as the second turbos don't get used as they don't cut in till 2500 rpm and most people don't take them above them, well so my brothers friends, cousins aunt told me maybe 😂

P.s
Don't read forums whilst drinking gin, it makes u evil 👹

I take your point, but I'd rather spend £25k on a 4.4 than £25k on a £17k 3.6 that went pop and I had to fix or have a very expensive paperweight. Would be my luck and all that....

And if you fancy a facelift one with digital dash, it's even more of a no brainer.....

OK

Problem is the availabilty and pricing of the 4.4. Most V8 diesels are 3.6 in Norway.

......back to my question. Is IT possible to change the turbos with the engine in the car?

Martin

As with everything mj it is down to how you use and look after it. Rag it when cold and don't service or service it and drive it every day like miss daisy then you may have problems. Play football everyday and lift heavy weights all the time and you will wreck your knees but you never hear people say "well I'm am not going to get a pair of knees I have heard that they always
Give you problems" 😂

The knees part is the gin talking by the way Thumbs Up Rolling with laughter

I think it is on the full fat RR, but not on the RR Sport. V8 or else ...

The left one is not that hard but the right one is a pig with the engine in and it is best to do them in pairs.

Engine stays in the car, sort of Whistle

Right hand turbo can be done in a few hours

LH turbo needs:

Exhaust manifold off
Engine mount bracket off
Diff off
Engine mount off
Subframe off
Steering rack off

That said, I have done them at the side of the road, so nothing hugely difficult. Just fiddly and time consuming Thumbs Up
