Replace 4.4 TDV8 engine, or sell the shell...?

Hi everyone.

We have a 4.4 TDV8 Westminster, 2012 with 100,000 miles on it. It went into restricted mode, and the local garage (non-specialist) now say theer's metal in the oil and it needs a new engine. They've referred us to a local 4x4 specialist who have done a replacement recently, and the wife is trying to get hold of them (I am overseas with work at the moment).

Can anyone help me out with the following:

What is it likely to cost (including labour) to replace the engine?
Am I better off selling the car onto someone as a project/to strip for parts etc. instead?
If I do that, what should I ask/expect to get for it?

We're in Cumbria, near Carlisle, if that's any help.

First of all I'd get a second and even a third opinion.

First thing to do is get the fault codes read. Once they have been read you will have an idea of why it's in reduced performance mode. I would not trust a garage who simply said it's got metal in the oil without having the fault codes read.
Like vs322 says get a second opinion or even a third one.

I would assume you’ve been referred to Simon Huntingdon at wigton. Simon and his his staff know there range rovers so should be able to give you a good idea of cost. He may be able to source a new engine or rebuild your existing one. 2012 tdv8 Westminster arrived Jan 19 gone Dec 23

As above, I wouldn’t do anything until you have had a full diagnosis carried out by a trusted Land Rover specialist.

Next steps can then be decided.

Hi, if you are south of Carlisle then give Cumbria Landrover a call at Penrith, I take my FF to him for all works I can't do myself and he is spot on.
Have you had the fault codes read, have you got an IID Tool? I'm in Lazonby BTW so if you need a quick read of the fault codes, PM me and I'll see what I can do. Thumbs Up
