Possible Purchase Advice & Feedback Please?.

Hi all

I am almost new to posting on this forum but knew of it through rrpsort.co.uk from my time with a Sport S/C few months ago.

Anyway, i sold the RRS and bought a 911 (was very disappointed with the RRS) but the FFRR bug has got me again and i am thinking long and hard about either a 2006 / 2007 TDV8 or for quite a bit less outlay a 55 / 56 S/C. I have a few questions id like comments on before i make my decision if thats ok please?.

1. Obviously the 2007 year has the facelift interior, having read a few comments on here about the seats not being as comfortable what would most do if they had the choice, pre or post facelift?.

2. The SC will give around 15mpg is the TDV8 really going to give me 25mpg?.

3. Am i correct in saying that pre 2007 S/C models will not have cooled seats even with perforated leather?.

4. Are the 2007 facelift cars better trim quality?. Had a 2003 in the past and trim used to peel off.

5. Does the TDV8 handle the same as the S/C?. Don't they have the same suspension set up ?. Not sure of the 2007 cars have improvements over pre 2007?.

6. Is the 2007 car more reliable than the pre 2007 or are the electronics the same after the 2004 switch from BMW stuff?. My 2003 was very reliable and i didn't expect that to be honest.

7. Ive read that higher mileage on the TDV8 can mean expensive repairs, is 50k going to fall into that category?.

8. With a £28k budget would you buy a 56 / 07 TDV8 Vogue (cant get a Vogue SE in this budget) or a newer S/C?. Im a bit of a petrol head but did tend to get sick of the mpg from my RRS S/C.

9. If i get one id like to add the 2010 rear lights, how hard is the upgrade if i buy lenses and resistors?.

10. Anything else important i should consider?.

Any comments, opinions or experiences welcome

Thanks

Carl

1. I prefer the older seats. But that means you can't have the TDV8 or terrain response. Which means you need a petrol. Had a Td6 for two years. It was good, but not quiet or smooth enough for e FFRR really IMO.

2. I averaged 26mpg in my TDV8, but that was motorways 80% of the time. 23mpg is probably more likely if you are town a fair bit, or less if you drive it like it's a supercharged.

3. Yes, correct.

4. Yes.

5. Not 100% sure if the SC has a stiffer set-up. They do have the same brakes though.

6. Generally yes, but it's more luck of the draw. You need to find a good one and hold onto it.

7. 50k on a TDV8 is not a lot in my opinion.

8. I'd buy the TDV8 because a newer SC will lose money like $%£&. Plus it's cheaper to run and you don't have to stop for fuel every 5 minutes.

9. Pass.

10. Service history is everything. Plus before you buy get the dealer to check the LR system and see how much waranry work it's had.

Do you say this Fox because if it's not had any work, then it's likely to be good; or if it's had lots done would now be sorted or you shouldn't touch because other things are likely to go wrong ?

It's just to know that it didn't have four waranty claims in the last two months and is now for sale. Shocked
A few things wouldn't worry me. It's a Range Rover, things do sometime need adjusting from new. But if it has a fault that can't be sorted it may be sold on...
So I'd look for patterns.

Thanks for the replies. The TDV8 is making sense to me at the moment but as expected the best deals are on S/C models.

Does the facelift RR have any goodies like MP3 / Ipod connectivity, better Bluetooth (my RRS wouldn't connect despite new modules etc) or is it pretty much the same as the 2005 / 2006 RR?.

I have a good offer on a nice late 2006 TDV8 Vogue and also on a 56 S/C Vogue SE so in effect similar cars since the S/C wont have cooled seats being a pre 2007 model but its quite a bit cheaper.

One TDV8 i have looked at and received a good offer on turns out to have been fully serviced from new by the owners own specialist garage rather than Land Rover. There are lots of bills with the car to prove the work and in some cases this is better than some young kid doing what he is told to do by a manual at the main dealers but i cant help think that as a result the warranty will have been void thus any problems may still be present.

The car is a 56 plate with 50k miles and im assures its 100% fine but its 7 hours drive to view so in the event of a problem after purchase its going to be an issue getting it back their for repair / resolution.

Would anyone on here consider a car like this or is the dealer service history a must?.

Thanks

Carl

If you tell us where it is, may be a local forum member could go and cast an eye over for you?

Is there not a used car warranty with the car if not I would insist on this as part of the deal. I wouldnt be concened if the car was looked after by Landrover or not as long as it has the receipts and history that would satisfy mre. Present :2008 TDV8 HSE
Gone Audi A5 2.7TDI
Gone Discovery 3 HSE
Gone Mercedes CLK
Gone Range Rover 2.5 DSE

Yes it will come with a warranty but from the supplying dealer which is 6 hours away from me so repairs will be a problem.

It does have receipts for the work done from new which in many ways is better than a LR stamp but come resale time im worried it wont sell or will take a hit because of no service records from LR during its early life.

Either it never needed any warranty work, it was done by the garage owners own tech or it was never done.
